Since I am kinda claustrophobic and that includes me being trapped underwater, I tried an alternative to scuba diving. Yes, although I really wanna try so much the scuba diving thing and being underwater for almost 45 minutes, I still don’t have the balls try it… Well not for now… probably later…
But I wanted to try being underwater still but less riskier… So I tried reef walking!!! They said that there is not so much danger if you are 15 feet below water. If you are way lower than that then you have to listen to your dive instructors because if you think you can just swim from down there and 15feet above up at an instant then you’re more likely to have an injury…
But this reef walking is such a baby activity that anyone who just know how to obey the rules can do…
This is not so popular yet in the Philippines but it is known in Countries with beautiful reefs like Australia and Thailand. Most people would also not like the idea and got turned off by it even if it is being offered face-to-face. They would rather ride a banana boat or flying fish if they’re so much of a baby, and try scuba diving if they are hyper daring!
But for mid fellas like me who is just getting my groove on the underwater stuff and conquering my aqua-claustrophobism then you sure must try this!
At the boracay, the rates for this activity goes around 500 to 600. You could get a discount if you go in as a group (like we did). The speedboat ride form the boracay shore to a reef walking spot is already included in the price so yippey-di-do-wap-ba-bap! you’re off to try this now if you see my pictures I am pretty sure.
Here’s how we knew about reef-walking (paraphrased conversation between my, Kristel and Angela while we were planning our Boracay activities together):
What time izzit?? laglagan na! XD
Kristel: I wanna try Reef walking!
Angela and me: What is that?
Kristel: I haven’t tried that yet, but literally, reef-walking.. and you have like a some sorta fishbowl in your head.
Angela: (**silent laughter** rotflmao)
Me: ah… that’s kinda super weird i haven’t heard of that…
Kristel: let’s google it!
(aparantly we couldn’t find any pictures)
AT THE BORACAY.
Kristel: cmon! let’s go reef walking
Angela: I don’t like I’m scared of the fishies and we would all look stupid walking along the shore with a fishbowl and fishies in your head +_+’
Kristel and me: **literally LOL**
But I couldn’t blame her for that because I actually could just not imagine having a fishbowl in my head too!!! so, our mistake Kristel and luckily and hopefully when someone googles “REEF-WALKING” at least they would already see some pictures of it and not create victims of people like us LOL!
This is also actually the first time I used my Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ5 underwater! I will post more about it soon but see I am so glad of the results!
here are samples of underwater pictures for Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ5.

and you don’t have to know how to swim! ^_^ they have guides guiding your walk all the time.. enjoy!
Hi Hannah, would you know what waterproof cam they’re using? I’ll be in Bora this March and I’ll try reef walking too. I’m thinking of buying an underwater cam – torn between Lumix TS2 (10m) or TS10 (3m or 10ft). How deep did you go? Kasi if it’s more than 10ft, I’m gonna buy TS2 instead. Mas mahal nga lang.
