This is not my first time really. A friend taught me how to ride the basics before but they totally assisted me while I was on the board and I always had a “tukod” before. This night was actually my first time to “ride” it alone! Thanks to Vince of WhenInManila.com for being my lao shi, sensei, teacher XD.

Longboarding at Bonifacio High Street

At first he was afraid that I might smash my face to the ground or skate myself into deep potholes at the sides of the streets of The Fort XD But you know me better guys, I usually want to try new stuff and dangerous it may be or not, I’m game!!!

Preparing for my lesson

Longboarding at Bonifacio High Street

It’s nothing formal really. Vince is just casual about everything and he always reminds me to just relax and have fun! I didn’t have knee pads or elbow pads and other protective gear so I wore leggings on my legs under my shorts so that in case I fall, I would not have a very bad injury. I also wear a bright-colored jacket as well just to protect my elbows and arms in case I fall… Why wear bright clothes? We were skating at the side streets AT NIGHT. Bright colors = more visibility. Meaning cars won’t bump me just randomly lol.  It was too hot though, so I had to remove it :P

Skating Video

In the morning though, I brought all my clothes and stuff I needed for the skate after work. I also had watched this video just for inspiration XD  It’s a music video from Chillitees – Andar… F*ckin awesome boarding video!!!

How was my first time?

GOSH… It’s like all my firsts… nervous, unsure, and I really don’t know what to expect when I really ride the board on my own… At first I “expected” to fall the first time and I was nervous because I did not have knee pads or elbow pads nor a helmet. So I knew I had to be really extra careful! In my first few tries, I had Vince to hold me while I ride the board but I think I had a more difficult time doing that because I was moving and he was just half-stationary and following me.

Thank you Vince for this awesome Panning shot!!!

While I was practicing my ride and my turns, I also taught Vince how to do a “Panning shot” so it’s a you-teach-me-I-teach-you thing.  He’s getting better at Photography!

Surfing and Skating

When I tried just to ride it… WHOAH! I made it XD I guess me being a surfer helped :) That’s probably another reason why skaters who would want try surfing would learn quickly.  It’s pretty much the same really(especially with longboards) check this video out to have a visual comparison of the two… You’d see that what you do on a surfboard, you can also actually do on the skateboard like cross-step and some ticks and stuff.

Next Level

So I know how to ride the board now, I know how to maneuver it a bit, to turn it and stuff and so I asked Vince “So, I know how to ride it now… teach me how to cross step :P

Vince:      ?!? T___T
