All I wanted to do was to sit on the beach and relax. It’s been way too long since I had my last vacation. I miss the ocean, the sunset, the sand and the fresh air.

That’s exactly what I needed to do, refresh myself. I needed to refresh my mind, my body and my soul. Little did I know that I would also be refreshing my heart.

It was love at first sight… or first ride. I definitely fell in love with surfing after catching my first wave. From that moment on, it started to become an addiction. Initially, I would come out to the beach once a month just to catch some surf, but the months quickly turned into weeks, and soon the weeks into days. I was out at the beach almost every day for one entire summer. But alas, just as the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end. So the summer came and went, along with my surfing love affair.

Back to work at the old cubicle; not quite the same as the beach, but it pays the bills. It’s been over three months now since I last saw the ocean. So I knew that had to change.

I call up my best friend and begged him to drive out to the beach with me for a day. He called me crazy and irrational. After all, a six hour drive just to see some water isn’t always the most convenient idea. Fortunately, he could no longer stand my pleading puppy eyes (or perhaps it was just my nagging).

We left at the break of dawn, 2am to be exact. We arrived there just in time to catch the first waves of the day. With no hesitation I grabbed my board and jumped into the water. It felt like heaven. It felt like I was surfing on clouds in the sky.

Finally, after a full day of surf, my best friend and I just sat and relaxed on the beach just like I wanted. A full day of surfing capped with an afternoon watching the sunset with my feet in the sand. I stole this perfect photo of my friend while he was resting next to his board. I’m not sure if it was the sunset, the ocean, the sky or the clouds, but everything just seemed so surreal.

I made sure to bring him his favorite bottle of Real Leaf Green Tea. He says it refreshes him, I guess just like the waves refresh my tired mind, body and soul. I’m sure he’s enjoying his drink now more than ever, while watching that sun go down and the last waves of the day come crashing in.

We all need to find our own refreshers and call upon them regularly. I guess that’s what I learned from this trip, that we’re all just little green bottles that need to be refilled when empty.
