My First Fiction

My First Fiction

I took a creative writing class at Modern Academy last month and I couldn’t believe I’m writing stories now!  I took a vow to better my writing for my blogging and possibly write more articles for print and other online publications.  But guess what, I’ve gained so much more than that!  I’ve learned to stretch my imagination and work on a story on a tight deadline!

If you’re a blogger, an aspiring writer or you want to put your stories into writing – make it better and take writing classes.  There’s nothing wrong with being self taught, and just doing your thing (that’s what I have been doing).  But putting more structure in your stories, aligning them to your readers’ interest would help you share your stories better.

Their next creative writing classes is scheduled to start on September 17, 2011.

You can register at their official website:

Apart from creative writing, Modern Academy also offers other classes.  I’m planning to take professional makeup classes here too 😛

Now here’s my first Fiction, my fairy tale story… in the land of Ascoff (first edit)

*this story is my copyright, use of this story or distributing it without permission is illegal

Once upon a time, in the magical island of Ascoff, there lived a King and Queen who are blessed with only one daughter and they named her Princess Mia.

The island kingdom is far away from the mainland and is rich with natural and magical elements that are unique to their soil. Pirates, warlocks, and other kings have always visited this island who attempted to grab a few of the natural resources themselves.

On one of their battles with the pirates, they captured the queen and killed her. They left a message saying, “This is just the beginning. Surrender your island to us, or we will do the same to your baby princess.”

The King had no choice but to seek help someone from the magical world to protect the island, his people and his daughter. He wanted make the island hidden from the ships that pass by. He sought help from a fallen siren named Adriana, a dark woman from the sea who betrayed the Goddess Hera for her selfishness and in turn was banished to the sea of loneliness. Adriana often walks by the shores of Ascoff, hoping to lure men to overcome her loneliness.

The king knew that he might regret making a deal with Adriana someday, but is left with no choice.

Years passed by and Princess Mia celebrated her 16th birthday in the castle. The island has never been more secure. Everyone in the kingdom was happy except for one person. Mia loved her dad very much but often rebels at their strict guidance over her. She felt like she cannot move around without the Royal guards tailing her everywhere.

Mia never had a memory of her mom as she was growing up because her mom died when she was barely learning how to walk. Mia honors her mom of course but she often thought that it must somehow be a blessing for her that she didn’t feel the pain of losing someone. She understands how her dad feels though and how she sees him sad, lonely and daydreaming despite a happy kingdom.

Her dad never loved another woman and now, he is getting old.

She often wondered what lies beyond their island and she wanted to explore it so bad but the King wouldn’t let her because it was too dangerous.

And now that she’s 16, the King talked to her after the party. He felt that he might be dying soon and if this day comes, no one will protect her. He wanted her to marry soon. He wanted her to marry the head of the Royal Guard – Rohan. Someone he really trusts with his life who would someday rule the kingdom with Mia.

It was too much for her to take. Rohan has been a great knight, but she cannot take the fact that she is somewhat being forced to it – like she always doesn’t have a choice. Like everything is planned.

She walked away crying and ran off by the shore where she seeks comfort from her friend Selena. Selena is a mermaid and they have been friends since they were little. Mia envies Selena because she can go to different islands including the mainland.

Despite that, Selena can only see the mainland by the shore because she couldn’t walk on land either. Not yet. Her mother Adriana kept the necklace with the golden pearl of Ara that should enable her to transform and have legs on land. Adriana forbids Selena to walk on land for the same reason that the King wanted to protect her daughter.

Mia confided in Selena her desire to run away and go to the mainland.

Meanwhile, Rohan followed Mia and overheard their conversation.

Mia, Selena, if you are planning to run away, at least let me come with you. The journey will be too dangerous, let me protect you.

“But why?” asked Mia. Why do you want to help us?

“You will never stop being curious.” Rohan said. And if we get married, you will never be happy unless you find out for yourself what lies ahead.

“So, are you betraying the King for me?” Mia asked.

“No, I’m doing them a favor. You will run off on your own anyway. At least when I’m around, you will feel safer. And besides, I believe that it’s better to ask for forgiveness than seek permission in some instances.” Replied Rohan.

“Mia, I haven’t been out of the island for a long time too but trust me – it is pretty dangerous out there. Are you ready to risk and face the consequences of what you are about to do?” asked Rohan.

“I have lived like a stone my entire life. I was told what to do, and they mold me into this stone mannequin by their liking. Sometimes, I feel like I don’t even think for myself anymore because I know that every decision comes from the king and I have been an obedient daughter. But I have a heart Rohan, and I feel that it is time to make my own decisions now.” Mia said.

“Very well then.” Selena said. “I might need to steal my mom’s golden pearl first so that I can walk on land.” She added.

Rohan trained Mia to use the magical sword and shield of her mom. Her dad gave it to her as a gift. The sword and shield are very portable. The sword is disguised as a ring while the shield as a bracelet.

Meanwhile, Selena stole the golden necklace from Adriana.

They finally set sail to head of to the mainland.

Adriana found out that the golden necklace was gone. She searched the ocean for her and found her with Mia and Rohan. Adriana felt instantly attracted to Rohan and she forgot all about the golden pearl and did what a siren does best – lure the man of her liking.

While Mia and Selena are asleep, Adriana appeared by their boat on her best form. Adriana sang her song and instantly, Rohan was bound by the spell.

Fortunately, a fisherman was nearby and saved Rohan by exposing a black pearl to the siren. This was one way to repel the siren as the presence of a black pearl nearby will harm the siren’s skin.

Selena and Mia woke up because of the siren’s shriek.

“You there.” Said Adriana pointing at Mia. “Daughter of the King of Ascoff.” She said, intently staring at her. “How is your father?”

Adriana revealed that she had a child with the King of Ascoff. Mia wouldn’t believe at first but since Rohan can feel if someone is lying or not, he could tell that Adriana was telling the truth.

Selena was also baffled. She was the only daughter of Adriana, that means she is a daughter of the king as well? And that Mia and her are sisters?

“Indeed my child, I think it is time for you to know.” Adriana said, now in a soft voice. “I was very lonely at that time as I was banished by the Goddess Hera to this horrible sea. She took my wings off, and I grew a tail to adapt to my surroundings. I was the only one of my kind in the sea and for selfish reasons; I lure men to be with me even for just a while. I am not a bad person. I don’t murder, I don’t even use my magical powers against any other human being. Trust me Selena. I was just too lonely.” She sobbed.

“Then, your father approached me one night seeking help for my protection. I agreed in exchange for a child in my womb. And that is you my dear Selena. I happily protected the kingdom now that I have you.” She added.

“I didn’t want you to walk on land because you are still young, your powers aren’t developed yet and you are half human. Meaning, I can’t predict how your powers will grow in time. If the pirates will know that I protect the kingdom and I have a daughter, they might take you away from me and use it against our advantage.”

It took a while for Mia and Selena to process this. No wonder they always had that sisterly bond. They were sisters.

They continued their journey and the fisherman went with them to guide them to the mainland. Selena and the fisherman fell in love with each other. And so are Mia’s feelings for Rohan.

They finally arrived at the mainland and they were disappointed. The land was a mess and it looked like there was a battle that took place.

“It’s sad when they keep on destroying just to claim lands and treasure.” The fisherman mumbled.

And so Mia, Selena and Rohan went back to the island of Ascoff only to find out that the king was dying. She blamed herself thinking it’s her fault that her father is dying.

“It’s not your fault Mia. I’m very old and I’m lucky even to have lived this long without your mother. There is something I need to tell you my child.” He said.

“I know father. I know you will do everything to protect me, I know that you have a daughter with the siren.” Mia interrupted.

“Forgive me Mia. I didn’t mean to hold this upon our family. I had no choice. Your mother died without knowing the truth.” Said the king.

“She is probably looking down upon us right now, happy that we are safe in the island. She is with the gods now.”

“If there is one thing I learned from my journey, it’s no matter how we make our own choices, you cannot control the choices of other people. You can force them, but you definitely can’t control their emotions. People make decisions, risk and make mistakes. And they do have their own reasons.”

And then the king died peacefully. Rohan stood by Mia’s side and never forced her to anything until one day Rohan felt that Mia loves him back, he finally asked her hand in marriage.

AirPhil Express Fly and Sail Aboard SuperStar Virgo

(long post :P)

At my quarter life (assuming I’d live till 100), I’d have to say I have a lot of check marks on my to-do list already! And I just checked another one when I finally boarded a cruise ship!

The Asian cruise is part of the Fly and Sail package of AirPhil Express for only P24,888 (all in). This included our overnight stay in Singapore with breakfast, the cruise itself (food included) and a short day tour in Malaysia.

I was afraid of getting seasick but I think that with my pole dancing, surfing and driving race karts – I am already immune with motion sickness. That didn’t excuse me from bringing medicines and thank goodness I brought them with me. It saved me from getting allergy attacks and headaches.

What’s in your travel bag? I broadcasted a livestream showing readers the insides of my travel bag here.

I was SO excited to be on a cruise ship!  I never imagined myself in one because I thought that cruise ships are only for rich people.  I didn’t know that AirPhil could make it happen – to be affordable for everyone!  You definitely get your money’s worth.

Welcome aboard the SuperStar Virgo

Passengers are given this card that would also serve as your credit card inside the ship.  You don’t have to take out your cash while enjoying the different ammenities inside the ship, but you do have to settle your bill and accounts at the reception booth upon docking.
Before this photo was taken, I stayed in Harbourfront Centre mall in Signapore because I had to unlock my Facebook and email accounts.  They all got hacked!!! I was supposed to try Pole Dance classes in Singapore on our free time but I had to lock and reactivate my accounts.  Imagine the stress?
Good thing I was about to board the SuperStar Virgo – stress gone!
Aloha! This is SuperStar Virgo
We boarded at HarbourFront Centre in Singapore.  Our destination: Port Klang, Malaysia!

Our Room

Did I tell you that I totally forgot about my hacked cyber life the moment I stepped inside this ship?

Ah yes, look at that Happy face!

This room is good for quad sharing.  One of the furnitures inside (bottom right, can barely see it -yes that yellow thing) can turn into a bed.  It’s a mutant I tell you and I want one in my house for guests 😛

I had the best roomates – Vanny and Jas!  They had chinese herbal medicine with them which prevented the flu virus to take over my entire body.  Thanks for that Pei Pa Koi, it soothed my throat and took away my sniffles.  Remind me to bring one in the future 😛

Facilities and Entertainment

It’s a floating 5 star resort!  They pretty much have everything on board – even internet!  But it’s a bit expensive at around SGD 0.20 per minute. *gulps* I never thought I’d survive a day without internet!  But hey! This ship had so much more to offer that I didn’t miss my laptop at all!
List of Facilities and Entertainment:
  • Galaxy of the Stars (Live music, dance lounge and cocktail snacks, afternoon tea and cocktails)
  • The Lido (Showlounge)
  • The Picture House (Cinema/Auditorium) movie time!
  • Out of Africa (Karaoke)
  • Oasis (Games of chance)
  • The Mahjong Room (Mahjong games)
  • Celebrity Disco (Discotheque)
  • Sports & Fitness

This is the Lido Theatre and this is where live performances from magic shows, concerts to acrobatics happen.

The guy holding me is “Philip” or Philippart

(entrance is free)

He’s one of the performers.  He does comedy, magic and he sings too!  We were seated up front and oh yes, you know in some magic shows they ask for volunteers? Being seated in the front row is given.

They also had Reflections of Russia (entrance is free)

There were gymnasts, acrobats, a couple of super flexible folks danced on a pole too!  I was so amazed how they were able to pull their tricks with their pants on… (we usually pole dance with skin) the more skin the better for our grip to the pole 😛

ohai! It’s me 😛

and since I missed my Pole Dance lesson in Singapore, I had to do this:

I had to do this quickly because they might arrest me or what!

Thanks @Ferdz for taking this photo!

If only airplanes have poles like trains have.. I’d love to do tricks 32,000 ft above the ground!

I wanted to do pole tricks in Singapore’s MRT… but you know how strict they are there, I’d get arrested 😛

Staying in shape and keeping fit need not be boring.  They have comprehensive range of facilities that make working out anything but mundane.  After sweating it out at the gym, end your session at the Apollo Spa and Fitness Centre. Choose to rejuvenate your way from any of the exotic spa treatments.

  • Amphitheatre (Jumbo chess board, Jumbo checkers and table tennis)
  • Universal Gymnasium (Gymnasium)
  • Parthenon Pool (Outdoor swimming pool, jacuzzi (4), sunbathing)
  • Aquaswim (Jet current exercise pool)
  • Star Track (Jogging circuit)
  • Other Facilities

They also have a business centre that is equipped with telecommunications systems to help you stay in touch with friends, loved ones or business associates.  Otherwise, choose to shop through SuperStar Virgo as you would a shopping mall.  They also have Chinese medicine here 😛

starlight arcadestarlight arcade

  • Ports O’Call (Onboard shopping)
  • Computer World (Computer centre in the child care centre)
  • Starlight Video Arcade (Video games) – they have time crisis, daytona usa, and many other arcade games
  • Oscar’s Hair and Beauty Salon (Hairdressing and beauty salon)
  • Library/Writing Room (Book loans and reading room) – my favorite place!
  • Charlie’s Child Care Centre (Children’s playroom and nursery)

Dining SuperStar Virgo

SuperStar Virgo offers so much more than first class dining and entertainment – it takes you to places where the sun, sea, people and culture blend colourfully well.  Every deck onboard SuperStar Virgo teems with endless fun, entertainment and activities. As you cruise to the most exotic parts of Asia on this floating five-star resort, its more than 25 outlets of food and beverage, entertainment and recreation outlets will impress you.  In fact, it is the only cruise ship in the world that has an authentic Indian restaurant on board that is certified ‘halal’!

There are 3 restaurants you can dine without extra charge in your card.  This is already included in the package and these are: the Mediterranean Buffet and Terrace (halal certified), Bella Vista (International Cuisine) and The Pavilion Room (Chinese Family Restaurant).  Other restaurants are with moderate charges.

All three restaurants serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.  The Mediterranean Buffet restaurant serves supper (midnight snack anyone?) 😛  The only restaurant that I haven’t tried was the Chinese resto.  Food was okay, there were some great dishes I liked in the Mediterranean buffet.

The Bella Vista cuisine is somewhat fine dining.  Be sure to dress properly in this restaurant.  I loved their cheese and buiscuit.

It’s the other way around actually.  I had fruits for appetizer (which I prefer) and cheese and buiscuit for dessert.

Sea Bass! :) My favorite!

List of shops, restaurants and their specialties aboard the SuperStar Virgo:

The Taverna (Poolside snack bar)
Café Gelato (Ice-cream, fresh fruit juices and desserts)
Mediterranean Buffet and Terrace (International buffet)
Samurai Restaurant (Japanese restaurant)
The Taj (Indian (halal) buffet)
Bellini (Champagne bar)
Blue Lagoon (Southeast Asian favourites)
Noble House (Chinese fine dining)
Palazzo (Italian fusion specialty restaurant)
The Pavilion Room (Chinese family style restaurant)
Bella Vista (International dining)

Gelato bar for your sweet tongue

That’s it for now guys.  It was really a nice experience for me.  I was never bored on board (it rhymes!).  Even if I couldn’t use my laptop.  I even felt like I lacked time to explore everything in the ship.  We had the 4 days 3 nights trip.  I’m thinking of doing this again.  Longer though and I might take the route to Penang and Phuket!

Pasta de Waraku – Changi Airport Singapore

Pasta de Waraku – Changi Airport Singapore

I haven’t written food blogs in a while.  I was more focused on health and fitness.  But what is health without food?

Food indeed is fuel for our body.  When I’m travelling, food tripping is part of my adventure!  I was so happy that I was with fellow bloggers who enjoy food like I do!

I wasn’t supposed to make a separate post for this restaurant but I had a great experience and decided to share it to you guys.  It was also the perfect time to bond with the other bloggers, now they know how crazy I am and how I get hyper (drunk-like) over ice cream.  I enjoyed this dinner probably because of the company that I have as well (nuks!).

Day 1 of our Fly and Sail adventure, touchdown Changi Singapore via Airphil Express.  We arrived in Singapore at 8pm and it was timely to eat on the airport.  Do you love airport food? Because I do… Sometimes I crave for aiplane food – I have no idea why.

We went to Pasta de Waraku to wait for Roch, one of the bloggers with us but she had trouble with immigration.  Alamak! (Malay expression for OMG) Immigration is always a headache.  Anyway, read here story here.

Pasta de Waraku – Japanese Fusion Restaurant

pasta de waraku - japanese fusion singapore

First impressions.

It’s Japanese food!  And I’m in Singapore!  I was thinking of feeding myself with lots of chicken rice, char kway teo, char siew fan, chilli crab, roast duck and hawker food!  But at that time I was so hungry I needed a “safe” food so that my tummy won’t get disintegrated (strong word but yes, my tummy is a grumpy one).

pasta de waraku japanese fusion changi airport singapore

The walls were decorated with different real-looking representation of their different dishes.

The ambiance was very casual yet it has that certain glam that would attract travelers to take a pitstop to fuel their tummies.  Pasta de Waraku is known for their different flavoured and customizeable Japanese infused pasta.

Dinner special total price: $24.80 with complimentary soup of the day and vegetable salad.  All sets also include fried tofu cubes, potato salad and fries.

For their dinner special, there are three steps in ordering:

1. Choose main course.  Among the things we tried are: Ribeye steak, soft shell crab (my order), smoked duck, and salmon steak.

2. Choose pasta.  Many choices here.  Most of the pasta they prepare are infused with Japanese flavor and that includes putting pouched egg yolk with your pasta.

3. Choose drink.  They only have coke, sprite, iced lemon tea and hot/cold green tea.

4. Choose your ice cream.  We all loved the black sesame ice cream!  This is the only choice you should try!

Warning: Huge serving!  I would probably share this with another lady friend.  But this would be perfect for a guy’s tummy.  They’ll definitely leave full and satisfied.

pasta de waraku prawn spicy carbonara

Prawn Spicy Carbonara with Yolk and Carbonara Sauce

Ordered by Marcos, my fellow Ilonggo :)  It is one of the best pastas I’ve tried in this restaurant.  Good choice Marcos!  It wasn’t too spicy, I love egg and shrimp and the subtle carbonara sauce.  I prefer oil-based pasta by the way or pasta without too much sauce.

The other pasta that I loved is what Estan and Winston ordered.

pasta de waraku

Estan had Smoked Salmon steak and Basil pasta with tomatoes.

When Estan’s order arrived, my nose just hyperjumped to a wormhole, brining me to another dimension (I’m exaggerating)  But that’s how good the smell of the basil pasta was.  And the taste of course was much appreciated since I love oil-bases pasta.

pasta de waraku - bacon and potato pasta

Bacon and Potato Pasta with Wafu Cream Sauce

This is actually my order.  I was just curious how potato in apasta would taste like.  It was actually good, but I found that it was too heavy for my meal.  I didn’t know that we were going to be served with fried tofu cubes, potato salad and fries on the side. (I wasn’t entirely reading the menu).

pasta de waraku roast duck barbeque

Smoked Duck with Sweet Chili Sauce

This is another winner! Ordered by Ferdz and Marcos.

pasta de waraku soft shell crab

Soft Shell Crab with Wasabi Mayonnaise Sauce

This was my order, and to me this was the best!  Loved the crispy crab fried and salted.  I didn’t even dip it to the sauce anymore because it was already flavorful. We had to ask the werver if we can eat the shell – just to be sure 😛

pasta de waraku soft shell crab singapore

Another angle of the soft shell crab.

Am I making you hungry now? good! 😛 *evil laughs*

and for dessert:

pasta de waraku black sesame ice cream

Black Sesame Ice Cream!

This was a new flavor for me.  I told the other bloggers after my first bite that the taste has another dimension.  There’s touch (texture), taste, smell, the visual (eyes) and the ears.  There’s not much hearing going on to taste the ice cream but I couldn’t describe exactly how the first bite felt.  Like the ice cream was smoking inside my mouth.

You know how unique the sesame seeds taste are – a tiny dash of it in something as simple as bread, adds up to the flavor.

And for this ice cream, it’s really good.  Well done!

So now you know of a great place to eat when you’re in Singapore Changi Airport.

Pasta de Waraku
Changi Airport Terminal 2
Viewing Mall, Departure Check-in Hall, Level 3
Opening Hours : 11.00am -11.00pm

Budget: SGD 25

This meal is not part of the AirPhil Express Fly and Sail package but hey, it’s still super affordable at P24,888.

Travel Blogger Fashion – What to Wear During a Flight

Travel Blogger Fashion – What to Wear During a Flight

Continuing my series of Fly and Sail Travel posts with Philippine Travel and Lifestyle bloggers…

Our flight via AirPhil Express was in the afternoon.  The travel from Manila to Singapore takes about 3.5 hours and by the time we arrive at Changi Airport, we were hungy.

AirPhil Express is one of the budget airline companies here in the Philippines giving us affordable flights to different destinations of our liking.  No food is served during the flight so you might want to bring a few snacks and some water during the flight if it would take you 3.5 hours 35,000 ft above!  We left Manila from NAIA Terminal 3 and there are a bunch of restaurants and small stores inside the airport.  I suggest that you buy your water after you passed immigration because they don’t allow bottled water or juices when you pass by the “check point”

I personally love the Beef Pares Noodles at that San Miguel shop.

Beef Pares

I also suggest that you wear shoes or sandals that are easy to take off and put back on.

Strappy sandals are sexy and fashionable, but it’s too much of a hassle 😛

I made this mistake once and we were in a rush, I had to strap my shoes back lol

Comfy sandals, comfy pants, a scarf in case I get cold and you can bring socks if you have chilly toes!

I’m also wearing the knitted black cardigan from Funky Plum enough to keep me warm during the flight, but not so hot for Singapore weather at night.

Singapore is a hot and humid country and it’s great if you wear light and comfy clothes going here.

During the flight, you will be seated all the time so comfy pants is a good idea.  I try to avoid denim pants during travel coz it squeezes my bladder and I’d need to go to the lavatory a lot.  I suggest comfy and flexible legging pants or this blow pants.  Leggings are flexible litterally and figuratively and should give you a safe look :) Also, leggings are light for your baggage, denims are heavy and occupies a lot of space.

But, whatever floats your banana boat – whatever is easy and comfortable for you go :)

For example, if you have a comfy pair of jeans like Roch and if you don’t want to pack your denims in your backage :)

Rochelle Sy Chua

Oh, and if you’re a guy .. I think it’s best to wear jeans, shorts or cargo pants instead of leggings 😛

like our guy bloggers:

ah yes, everyone looking comfy and ready to board the plane!

Winston Almendras Statement Shirt

Guess who?

It’s the Batang Yagit turned Richie Rich – Winston Almendras.

Wearing a comfy Tee “Do not delay, Travel Blogger on board”

What can I say, it serves its purpose :) Good job Win!

Ferdz Decena Ironwulf.net

Rochelle Sy Chua Hearty's Heaven

Roch of Hearty’s Heaven wearing sequin-studded gray top that complements her smile

There you go, just a few travel and fashion tips for you guys.  If you can combine style and comfort – then that’s the best and ideal fashion philipophy in my opinion.  Why go fashion over comfort and suffer when you can be comfortable and fashionable at the same time 😉

Skywheat Bio Soy Milk for your Hormones!

Skywheat Bio Soy Milk for your Hormones!

Ladies, don’t you have wierd times where you feel like you can’t control your emotions and you get mood swings?  You pull off a tantrum and then you feel guilty towards people affected by your actions.

Sometimes, the explanation to this is scientific.  Remember this: “I love you from the bottom of my hypothalamus!”

Because emotions don’t come from the heart, technically – it’s our hypothalamus that sends signals to our brain.  And what for the mood swings?  It’s all about hormonal imbalance.  There are a few people who go through quarter life crisis, some are even clinically depressed, others bipolar.  It’s all realated to our health!

Drugs can help mediate this symptom.  I’m not a doctor by the way, but I learned this from school and further research.  Bottom line is, I always believe that who you are is what you eat!  Eat healthy, get better emotions.  Less tantrum, less bad times :p

I wrote about ending my Quarter Life Crisis a couple of months ago.  That was the time where I felt stable – emotionally.  That was when I started dancing again, regular gym workouts and eating right!

That was also the time I started drinking Wheatgrass and Bio Soy Milk!

Why not drink your way towards hormonal balance :)

This one’s especially for the ladies. Regardless of age.

Hormone imbalance. It hardly makes sense to the younger gen yet everyone goes through it everyday.

Women who regularly suffer from fatigue, depression, anxiety, headaches, hair loss, poor memory, and bad skin should consider taking a second look on these conditions they normally encounter. In this time and age where one’s health is often at risk because of unhealthy lifestyle practices, these disorders may signal a more serious health condition.

Doesn’t matter if you’re not yet 30 or you’re no longer within the calendar’s orbit. Women who go through these ‘dysfunctions’ are most likely suffering from hormonal imbalance. It happens when the estrogen level (female hormones) is higher than the progesterone level (another female hormone).

Produced by the ovaries, these hormones must work together to develop female sex characteristics and promote fertility. They must be in perfect balance because any change in that could have poor effects on a woman’s health. Too much estrogen in the body for instance, might bring about different reactions like mood swings and tenderness of breast especially during the premenstrual period.

What causes it. The primary cause is an unhealthy lifestyle – – poor diet, lack of exercise, obesity, frequent and excessive drinking and smoking. Stress also contributes to the lowering of progesterone level in the body. Progesterone produces anti-stress hormones but constant stress might exhaust the body, leading to the decrease in production of progesterone hormones in the body. Exposure to chemicals like petrochemicals found in some cosmetics – and industrial chemicals present in plastic materials that we use, and some vegetables that have been exposed to pesticides also cause hormonal imbalance.

Implications of hormonal imbalance. Hormones act as messengers in the body in order for the cells, tissues, and organs to work properly. The release of hormone depends on the release of another hormone produced in the body. It’s important that underproduction and overproduction of hormones must not take place. A slight interruption on the pancreas’ production of insulin could lead to complications in the heart. Or it could cause the body’s glucose level to rise. Common health problems resulting from hormonal imbalance are high blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis, infertility and cancer.

Balancing the hormones. Engaging in physical activities like swimming, running and avoiding stressful situations help restore hormonal balance. Another way is to go organic especially on cosmetics and food.

I usually eat heavy breakfast and light lunch.  For lunch, especially when I’m just at home, wheatgrass and oatmeal 😛

Eat foods rich in phytoestrogens. These are plant compounds that act like estrogen – – beans, seeds, grains, barley, corn, apples and green leafy vegetables like broccoli, celery, cabbage, cucumber. Wheat germ, soy milk and beverages also contain phytoestrogens.

and I love drinking hot Skywheat Bio Soy Milk at night :) You can either drink it cold or hot..

Drinking Skywheat Bio Soy Milk regularly can keep your hormones in balance because it combines three natural ingredients: soy protein, wheatgrass and oligosaccharides.

Oligosaccharides are natural sweeteners that promote the growth of good bacteria. Wheatgrass, on the other hand, boasts of essential vitamins, enzymes, nutrients, amino and fatty acids that the body needs to keep it strong and healthy..

Bio Soy Milk contains isoflavones which are natural antioxidants and are a type of phytoestrogen that promote homonal balance and delay aging… which should be good news to all ladies out there.

So ladies, make Bio Soy Milk your everyday best friend ever, like I have. I need this to help me keep my balance on the pole, keep my mind and memory sharp before I write and appear on TV.

To know more about the product, visit www.wheatgrasscan.com or call Easy Pha-max Phils. at their hotline number 890-1111. Skywheat Bio Soy Milk in sachets are sold at Easy Pha-max kiosks located in the malls of SM, Robinsons, Landmark, Limketkai, Gaisano and Limketkai.

Touchdown Singapore Fly and Sail via Airphil Express

Aug 19, 2011

Greetings from Singapore!

Airphil Express docked at Terminal 2 (not the budget airport) which is great if you want more selection of restaurants and shops for your last minute pasalubong shopping.

I was planning to lifecast the whole time via my new livestream channel at Justin.tv but free internet is scarce here in Singapore nowadays.  [email protected], their city-wide wifi, is not as reliable anymore as before.  I used to enjoy wifi anywhere in the city as long as I buy a local Singapore sim card and register it.  But it seems useless now.  They don’t have temporary data plans unlike Malaysia’s digi.

So for now, I have photos below showing our first night.

Upon arrival, we got a little bit gutsy and asked if we can take photos in the cockpit.  The crew and the pilot were very nice to us :)

At night, we walked around Little India and made our way to Mustafa mall to have some of our money exchanged and bought pasalubongs.  I bought chocolates and sun flower seeds for Bunny at home.

Leaving on a Jet Plane – and Sailing through The Seas

Hello guys

Finally! I’m going to travel again via Airphil Express and will be sailing from Singapore to Malaysia <3 My feet is definitely itching for some travel, my heart thrives for some adventure and my stomach cries for asian food! Milk teas, Bah Kut Teh and Char Kway Teo – whaddup! Come to momma!  Oh Char Siew Fan, Chilli crab, Nasi Lemak and more! I’m such a piggy!

I also have been doing something new lately and I have been trying out “lifecasting”

If you don’t know what it is – Google or Wikipedia :) But seriously, it’s just me broadcasting my activities via livestream! I love technology!

I was just testing out live streaming on Justin.tv and surprisingly I get a lot of views (internationally -whaddup!?!?!) without me even advertising it. I see a really great potential in expanding my online influence and this medium is one way of doing it.

Follow my livestream videos here:

I usually get a foreign sim card so that I can take advantage of their data plans, so that everywhere I go, I’m always connected 😛

Meanwhile, how are you guys? If you’re a blogger, put a link to your latest blog post below so that my other readers can blog hop <3

Sharing is caring!

See you soon guys!

Video Blog: Blackberry Playbook Review

Sharing my experience with the Blackberry Playbook so far <3

The Flair:

  • hardware and packaging
  • light enough and tiny! (fits in my purse)
  • multi-tasking is a breeze! you don’t know how much time it saves!!!
  • full web browsing experience including flash rendering
  • personally for me: I can blog and manage my social media projects using Playbook
  • RIM is making sure the tablet is safe and secure (when it comes to data being stored, received and transferred) – and I heard that it is the only tablet authorized by the “government” and some spies use this or something like that 😛

The bad

  • Only comes in 1 color (as most of the tablets lol) and I don’t think they will be selling one in other color soon
  • limited apps
  • have to wait for Android app support
  • you need a Blackberry phone to fully utilize Bridge Mail and calendar

For me, the flair outweighs the bad that’s why I will keep this Blackberry Playbook with me :)

Hed Kandi Disco Heaven Pure Kandi Blue Pink Headphones Review

Hed Kandi Disco Heaven Pure Kandi Blue Pink Headphones Review

Currently Listening to: Hed Kandi – Man in the Mirror Club / Dance Mix

I often listen to music when I work… and since work for me is play, I am just doing that by reviewing these headphones I have on – Hed Kandi Pure Kandi Disco Heaven Headphones!

Guess what color I picked – the very colorful Baby blue and baby pink colored headphones!

• Driver diameter: 30mm
• frequency response: 20-20,000Hz
• impedence: 32 Ohms
• sensitivity: 108 dB
• max input power: 100 mW
• cable length: 1.5m

I love the cute packaging.  It’s an eye candy and you can easily see the earphones when you look on it.  Specs and the quick description of the headphones are there, just enough if you need to decide to buy it or not.

Hardware and Design

I find the Pure Kandi Hed Kandi headphones very lightweight which is a big plus for me!  It si also designed to be foldable and flexible but sturdy enough.  Although, the soft mushy part that covers your ears is a little bit delicate so you just need to be careful on that one.

I say the Pure Kandi design is great for travel.  Light weight and it will add spice to your outfit for today.  Imagine chilling 32,000 feet above air as you’re sitted comfortably on an airplane, wearing this… It’s a flirting device too!

I usually have headaches when I use headphones.. but good enough, these headphones are flexible and light enough – it doesn’t hurt my hair nor my head :)

Sound Quality and Performance

I’ve experienced better headphones, but for the price that it offers, I’d say it’s a steal.  Quality of sound is great for its price and it sounds great with your house / club and some hiphop dance music.  And since Hed Kandi is quite a leader in House, Club and Chill music… it just makes sense that they created their own headphones to accompany their music.

I gauge the quality of a headphone if I can hear every instrument that the music has.  And so I had to listen to “Turn your lights down low” by Bob Marley.  Reggae music uses A LOT of instruments! And boy, I can hear the bass guitar, the organ, the acoustic drums, brass instrument to steel pans.

*enjoying my Blackberry Playbook and Hed Kandi Pure Kandi Headphones – listening to One Republic’s Good Life :)

SRP:  Php 1,990

Hedkandi headphones are available at the following stores:

  1. Power Mac
  2. Power Hub
  3. iStudio
  4. Astrovision
  5. Technoholics
  6. Bratpack
  7. Mobile 1

Plan your holidays early! Visit my blog, I updated a few airline deals that you may be interested with! Hurry coz the deals are about to expire soon! flaircandy.com

The 7,107 islands in the Philippines are getting more closer than ever.  With the boom of the airline and travel industry in the Philippines, there is no doubt you can conveniently explore and discover different places here in the Philippines.

Another choice for you guys out there planning your budget trips! The holiday season is getting near, and the earlier you plan for your holidays, the more you save!

Airphil Express just did more for its travelers by reinforcing their presence, tapping the market up North of Luzon.  Airphil is set to extend its operation base to the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport at the Clark Special Economic Zone in Angeles City, Pampanga by signing a contract with Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC).

Airphil Express definitely has a lot to offer for travelers out there – a budget airline with compelling value proportions.  And I summarized them in bullet points below:

  • FREE 15 kilo check-in luggage allowance
  • 7 kilo hand carry baggage
  • optional travel insurance and other add-ons
  • online reservations
  • online seat selection
  • online check-in
  • 20 percent discount on airfare for bonafide, currently enrolled students
  • APX rewards – customer loyalty program where loyal Airphil Express travellers can receive a free ticket after logging in 10 trips under the program

“Airphil Express will soon be offering domestic and Southeast Asian routes based in the Clark international airport, to serve the growing number of travellers based in the northern regions of the country,” says Alfredo Herrera, Airphil Express senior vice president for marketing and sales. “This is all in line with our expansion process and consistent with our growth strategy to solidify our position as a key player in the local budget airline market.”

Domestically, Airphil Express has commenced Manila-Tacloban flight, and will yet to launch Manila-Ozamiz and Davao-Iloilo routes. A Cebu-Hong Kong flight also debuted just last July.  Currently, Airphil Express flies to 25 domestic and 2 international destinations along with selected domestic flights originating from Davao and Zamboanga.

Unlimited Travel with PAL’s Fly Asia Pass

Posted by on Aug 6, 2011 in Fashion, Featured, Shoes, Travel

Unlimited Travel with PAL’s Fly Asia Pass

My last travel was in Hong Kong last February and I feel like I haven’t traveled in ages.  I know, I know I’m a travelholic and a shopaholic.  I usually travel at least every two months (locally or internationally) and right now, I’ve been dying to do that.

I got excited knowing that PAL is offering Unlimited travel for a fee of USD 270.  With this I can already travel to whatever Asian country that I want within 7 weeks (or until December 31, 2011 whicherver comes first) and with whatever I can afford because I still need to pay for surcharges.

And yes, I can go to Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Taipei, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh, Jakarta, Beijing and Shanghai – all I want and as many times as I want.  It also includes unlimited local travels to Cebu and Davao!  So, if within the next few weeks you are just dying to hop on to that travel / shopping spree then the Fly Asia Pass is for you.  Details of PAL’s Fly Asia Pass are all here and their FAQ page for your questions.

And the best part is – mileage accural applies!  So, with the travels I have in mind, I probably would have another free travel due to the many miles I am about to accumulate! Sweet deal!

When I travel I look for shopping and adventure!  It’s perfect timing because I haven’t booked my Formula 1 Singapore trip yet.  And oh my long awaited Bangkok trip to get me some clothes and tailored outfits and a great bargain has been postponed over time.

My plan is to get my shopping and adventure in place so that I can take full advantage of my PAL Fly Asia Pass :)

My Shopping Adventure Itinerary

I love shopping for clothes, shoes and bags outside the Philippines because they spice up my fashion style.  And yes, I also support Filipino designs and collections but it’s always nice to have a mix of both worlds!  There are a lot of cute outfits, weird but fun accessories and make-up essentials that are not available here in the Philippines.  You will often find me oogling at Vivi magazine (Japanese magazine) to check out latest trends and fashion ideas :) And yes, I often buy Vivi magazine everytime I’m in Singapore or Hong Kong because they don’t sell it here in the Philippines.

First, it is very important to know my first travel because this will be the start of my 7 weeks unlimited travel.

My 7 weeks: Sep 23 – Nov 10

September 23 because I am planning to watch the Formula 1 in Singapore AGAIN! That will be my 4th time.  Cheap rates have also been very available to everyone but they go on limited dates.  With Fly Asia Pass, I can pick whatever date I want, even peak dates, as long as there’s still available seat.

Enough teasing and let me show you my itinerary!

September 23 – 26, 2011

Manila – Singapore – Manila

hannah villasis singapore f1

It’s Singapore Grand Prix Season!  This time Singapore is buzzing with fun and adventure.  Also, it is the only time I have to shop for Formula 1 merchandise!  If you are into motor sports like me and you want to buy authentic Ferrari merchandise (or whatever your team is), like official jackets, caps and T-shirts then Singapore is the place to be!

It’s a great joy to shop in Singapore especially if you want to buy beauty products that are not sold here in Manila.  Also, luxurious brands are left and right with hundreds of malls in Singapore.  Get those Guccis and Pradas at a cheaper price and a bonus – shop in Singapore Tax Free!

Kampong Glam & Arab Street, Bugis, Geylang Serai, Marina Bay, Orchard Road, Little India, North Bridge Road, Raffles Place Riverside are must-visits. The Riverside area by River Valley Road houses the newest and oldest shops in Singapore. Raffles Place and Shenton Way are crowded shopping areas for a variety of stuff.  Also look out for unique arts, antiques, handicrafts and carpets.

Partying is part of my plan! I am planning to contact my friends in Singapore (Singaporean and Filipinos) and hang out in Zouk or Powerplant or whatever is new in Singapore!  Besides, Formula 1 grounds have different parties going on too :)

Also, if I have time – I might take Pole dancing classes at Bobbi’s Pole studio! I’m also off to buy some shirts they pole dancing shorts, sports bras and shirts there :)

September 30 – October 2, 2011

Manila – Davao – Manila

My body is craving for a tan and so I’m planning to stay overnight in one of the nice beaches in Davao.  And of course, I need some beach shopping – batik and malong shopping!  Did you know that you can use malong as an emergency dressing room when you need one?  When I discovered this, I knew I had to do some malong shopping!  And sadly, not even Boracay has variety of malongs for sale.

Pretty neat wardrobe emergency tip right?  You can find malongs, handicrafts and other native dresses at Aldevinco Shopping Center.

October 7 – 9, 2011

Manila – Bangkok – Manila

Probably the best and most popular shopping location in Asia for a good reason – super affordable shopping with good quality.  With a variety of clothes, shoes, bags, accessories and jewelry to tailor-fit suits, I think Bankok is the ultimate shopping haven!

My boyfriend had most of his suits made here in Bangkok – tailor fit for a very reasonable shocking price with great quality.

If you’re dropping by Bangkok, don’t forget to pass by Rama I road, Ploenchit road, Ratchadamri road, Siam Square area.  This area have generally a large number of shopping centers – 1 day or even 2 days isn’t enough for you to go around.  But still, the shopping experience is definitely fun!  You will enjoy bargaining and getting clothes and accessories at really low prices.

If you are into gadgets, shop your digital heart out at Pantip Plaza.  I might need a new DSLR since I broke it :(

October 14 – 17, 2011

Manila – Singapore – Kuala Lumpur via coach – Singapore -Manila

*at KLCC where I always stop by to get some Godiva Dark Chocolate Chocolixir

Since there are no direct flights to KL, I will fly to Singapore instead.  Going to KL is hassle-free if you take an express coach straight from Lavender Street Bus Station in Singapore to KL Transnational Express coaches departing from Lavender bus station in Singapore at 8:30 am, 10am, 12nn, 1:30pm, 3pm, 5pm, 8pm and 11pm.  It costs only about SGD38.

If you are on a super budget trip, you can travel from Singapore to Larkin Station in Johor Bahru first and then get a ticket to KL which costs around SGD 10 or RM 20.

What to do in KL – visit my awesome Malaysian friends and food trip!

I am here to shop for herbs and spices!  The first time my Malaysian friends took me to Klang, I fell in love with Bah Kut Teh – a soup made of Pork, vegetables and herbs.  They sell Bah Kut Teh mixes and some tea and herbs that I can find in Malaysia particularly my favorite Chrisanthemum flower tea.

Also on October, KL will have a Photography Festival in Mid Valley.  Photography is one of the fun hobbies I undertake and the entrance for this is free at Mid Valley Exhibition Center.

KL also has night markets or “pasar malam.” where you can find hawkers selling local stuff, food items, clothing and many more.  Around October / November, the shopping carnival also holds an annuwal sale.  Some of the more popular shopping areas are Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Cheng Lock, Petaling Street, China town and Central Market.

I stayed in the area of Petaling Street once and it was a convenient place to sleep, eat and shop! – Gadgets, clothes, shoes, makeup and accessories – name it all, you can find it here :)

And of course, if I have time again – I’d visit one of the Pole Dancing studios, buy a few pole dancing gears they have (I’m kinda making it my collection) and take pole dance lessons there as well!

October 27, 2011

Manila – Cebu – Manila

My very first Business Class trip via PAL was from Manila to Cebu.  I wished the trip lasted longer!  I was enjoying the airplane food and the comfy seats too much!

I will travel to Cebu and back for a day because I can with PAL’s Fly Pass!  It’s me and my boyfriends’ birithday and we just want to celebrate it by eating the famous Cebu lechon at lunch and have dessert at La Merea!

Of course, shop for pasalubong at Tabo-an where they have danggit (dried fish yummy!), dried mangoes, otap and mangorin!

November 4 – 7, 2011

Manila – Hong Kong – Manila

H&M, Uniqlo, Citygate Outlet, Tsim Sha Tsui, Sasa, Bonjour and Ladies Market!

Indeed Hong Kong is the ultimate shopping haven for fashionable people.  I mean, everyone here in Hong Kongs is always dressed up!  Boots, colorful neon shirts, the hairstyles!

*that green bag is full of items I just shopped!  yes, I bring my own shopping bag – stay GREEN everyone! Besides, stores here (even 7/11) will charge you HKD 0.50 for plastic bag!

I booked Hong Kong trip the last because I was waiting for Winter.  Well, it’s not as cold yet, but cold enough again to enjoy the Hong Kong chill!  Shopping is a breeze at this time because it’s not rainy, and it’s not hot and humid.  It’s not too cold either so the weather is just right to shop away!

To me, this is the No. 1 shopping center in Asia! From luxurious items to very cheap bargains – it’s here!

I often go to Hong Kong to shop for costumes and wigs! Yes wigs go from P500 – P800 if you know how to bargain!  It’s perfect for cosplay and for halloween costumes :)

I am also planning to take Pole, Robe, Hoop and Silk classes at Aerial Arts Academy in Hong Kong!

When in Hong Kong, visit the Ladies’ Market or Parallel streets named Li Yuen Street East and Li Yuen where I get my costumes and wigs.  Mong Kok area also has a lot of beauty and makeup stores :)  Tsim Sha Tsui for your digital needs, and City Gate outlet for branded products at cheaper prices :)

This is just a temporary itinerary.  But, I must finalize it within 2 weeks after my purchase of the Fly Asia Pass.  I’m still determined to go on that shopping and adventure spree!  How about you guys?  What’s your itinerary? :)

Many people say that its software is a bit limited.  Which is true.  Everyone is watiting for the Android app support for the Playbook.  But, despite the many critique against the Playbook, I’d still defend it simply because its benefits for outweigh its limitations at least on my end.

I will post my unboxing and quick review of the Blackberry Playbook tablet soon :)

Globe Blackberry Playbook Plans

Globe Blackberry Playbook Plans

Globe just recently launched their latest Blackberry Playbook plans for their subscribers. Pre-ording is over but you can now get the Playbook with blackberry at the rates below:

Check here for details.

Globe launched this together with Blackberry just a couple of days ago and they raffled off a few units of Blackberry Playbook.

I didn’t win one through raffle because I’m horribly unlucky when it comes to those things… But I believe that we make our own luck and I even wrote a parable for it… and so I joined the BEER drinking contest!  Actually, thanks to Glenn, Winston, Coy, Jonel and Aaron for “forcing” me to join.  Good thing I was already done taking my antibiotics @_@

I am not good with beer, but I had to chug it like water because I can feel the force of the Blackberry Playbook calling me!

And so the night ended with me holding on to this:

*thank you Winston for this photo :)

Despite the many critique against the Playbook, I’d still defend it simply because its benefits for outweigh its limitations on my end.

The biggest turn-ons for me:

  • fits into my purse without hurting my back
  • The best web-browsing experience ever for any tablet! It can play flash and renders web pages like I’m using my PC’s browser
  • WordPress.com/wp-admin renders well – therefore I can edit my blog posts.  I couldn’t do this with my iPad :(
  • multi-tasking is a breeze!  That ables me to manage some social media I handle by running the browser and some excel sheets at the same time

The only limitation it has is that it has only a few apps.  Blackberry Playbook representatives responded by pointing out that they are more keen on having “quality” apps rather having a lot with below average quality.

Globe Blackberry Playbook launch

If you are into games, you might have to wait for the Android app support for Playbook.

But, if you’re like me who needs a portable device for work and blogging then this tool is for you.  It has some cool games too like the pre-installed Need For Speed game by EA Games.

I was thinking, I need to do more video blogs and that I will do for my unboxing of the Blackberry Playbook.  :)  I will also tell you how my experience with the Playbook went so far.

‘Til next time,

SM Beauty Within

SM Beauty Within

A lot of people gauge beauty by what they can see on the physical.  People never complement you by saying “Wow, you have pretty cells” but we all know that the key to have fairer skin, hair and overall well-being lies within.  It’s what we feed our body to fuel our physical needs.

Ah, make-up.  It’s so in demand.  It does wonders, it does magic!  True, I put on makeup myself to enhance my features.  But wouldn’t it be nice to have skin as smooth as a baby’s and hair that’s oh so soft?

Trend or no trend, I’m happy that people are starting to realize the importance of being healthy and that beauty starts from within.

SM Department Store recently launched their Beauty Section that now offers an entire area for beauty ingestives.  Individuals can now unravel more beautiful versions of themselves beyond skin deep.  With SM Beauty Within, they introduced a plethora of supplements, vitamins and pharmaceuticals that are geared towards women’s well-being.

This is affirmed by Dr. Angel Tomacruz- Cumagun, dermatologist and beauty expert — “Ingestives are beauty supplements. By taking supplements orally, the necessary nutrients reach into the inner as well as outer skin layers from within. Thus, the expected outcomes like renewing cells, fighting free radicals as well as boosting the immune system can be felt and seen”.

– Dr. Angel Tomacruz – Cumagun, dermatologist and beauty expert

SM’s Beauty Within has brought together the country’s top brands with a singular mission in mind: to help women the country over reveal their beauty from within. Standout beauty solutions include:

For skin whitening

  • Mosbeau – With key Ingredients like Placental protein, Asparagus Extract , Vitamin C, Collagen and Glutathione, Mosbeau whitens skin while rejuvenating skin cells and removing harmful toxins from the body.
  • Belo Nutraceuticals – This latest offering from the powerhouse brand harnesses whitening and anti-ageing in one capsule. It’s infused with glutathione and collagen precursors and provides an added bonus: a healthy dose of Vitamin C.
  • Cosmo Skin – Contains Primeform Glutathione which effectively inhibits formation of eumelanin (dark melanin) and synthesizes Phaeomelanin (light melanin).
  • Met Tathione – A certified Japanese treasure, Met helps strengthen the immune system, removes toxins from the liver and protects the body from free radical damage.
  • Other skin whitening options include Vita Pack, KB Kyusoku and Slim & White.

For Skin Enhancement / Anti- Aging

  • Myra E Capsule – An antioxidant that protects and fights against free radicals that damage skin, Myra E capsules promise healthy skin and eyes for an overall youthful glow.
  • Other vitamins and supplements available are Gloww, Pynocare and IVI Premium Collagen Drink.

For Body Slimming

  • Xenical – Xenical blocks some of the fat that you eat, keeping it from being absorbed by your body. It is used together with a reduced-calorie diet and weight maintenance to treat obesity in people with certain risk factors (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol or triglycerides).
  • Other slimming formulation options are Lesofat, ATC Redoxfat, Biguerlai, Cosmo Body, Kankura Herbal Tea, Kankunis Herbal Tea and Biofitea.

Smart Spending and More Convenient Shopping with VISA Debit Cards

Smart Spending and More Convenient Shopping with VISA Debit Cards

Banks have been thinking of better, safer and smarter ways to accommodate the needs of your normal daily spending activities.  As a full-time blogger, I need to keep on satisfying my shopping, food tripping and travel needs 😛

Else, what am I going to blog about?

I’m pretty sure all of you are spenders as well but are you spending smart?

As a frequent traveler, I find it hard to trust my surroundings – especially when I’m in a foreign area.  I once traveled ALONE to Malaysia (yes all by myself!) to meet a few of my blogger friends there.  I took a budget flight and you know how late the flights leave in Manila and arrived at a very awkward time – 12 midnight!

I didn’t think through my transportation mode much when I planned my trip.  Trains were already closed.  I didn’t know how to ride a bus there. So imagine… I hired a cab with a sleazy driver who kept asking me if I’m married, why I’m in Malaysia and for how long (gosh he’ll know where I’m staying), where I’m from etc… I’m not sure if he’s just being friendly but it creeped me out!  I was holding on the the cash I have in my bag.

I am deeply reminded why I don’t like taking cabs here in the Philippines as well.  I’ve heard horror stories of my friends getting robbed or held-up with either a gun or knife… The best way to do to survive is to give what they want right… Give the bag. give the money..

DANGEROUS and Crazy world!

Edumacate Me!

My accounting and finance skills will be for nothing if I don’t give you some little bit of coaching on how to protect, keep track and use your hard-earned money the smart way :)

It’s time I introduce you to – VISA Debit Cards!

Quick round-up of what a Debit Card is:

  • looks like your ordinary ATM card or credit card but is an alternative payment method to cash and checks.
  • it is usually linked to your checking or savings account
  • upon use, funds are immediately withdrawn from your bank account
  • you can spend only what you have in your account

Benefits of Visa Debit Cards

  • It can be used anywhere, even around the world, that carry the Visa logo
  • There are no monthly payments or debt accrued **
  • Debit cards can be used in ATMs to withdraw cash just like an ATM card
  • Use it as a financial management tool. So I suggest these steps: Budget >> Spend >> Monitor!

**while this helps keep you out of debt, you need to monitor debit card purchases closely and stick to your budget so you don’t overdraw your account

visa debit card

yeah… so imagine at that time if I had a Visa debit card when I was traveling that would give me some peace of mind. I don’t like estimating how much money I bring when I travel because I either overspend (because I have to use up all the cash I exchanged) or overspend (coz I lack money and I withdraw money from my ATM).

Still, be responsible guys.  It is your own hard-earned money – not mine… You have to take care of your finances yeah? :)

Here are more tips when you use your debit card.

Practical Tips When Using Debit Card

  • Keep sales receipts as reference
  • Remember to account for any bank fees that may apply
  • Review statements carefully.  If you suspect a mistake, contact the bank that issued the card as soon as possible
  • Always follow up with a confirmation letter for the bank.  This would eliminate suspicions of identity theft

Testing WordPress App for Android

I am using HTC Chacha that runs on Android.  I downloaded WordPress app for Android.

I am testing this because I am trying to see if I need Blackberry Playbook for me to blog.  It has the best browser among all Tablets (so far) because it can render flash.

And I need flash to use wordpress.com

But, I’m testing if this Android app would suffice.

Insterted is a photo of the Blackberry Playbook that I won :)

Apparently, I can upload photos using WordPress app for android. But the problem is, I can’t seem to edit where I want it to appear. @.@

Manila Traffic App: Metro Manila Traffic Navigator

Finally, a tool that would help everyone navigate the daily chaotic traffic in Manila!  Technically, it’s not an app.  Well not yet, but still the website will render beautifuly with any medium – even your smart phones.

This has been introduced to everyone for beta testing and it has been helpful for a lot of people using it.  And now, it’s officially for you to use! There is no definite way of solving our traffic problems here in Manila, but I believe this tool is one way to plan your route and manage your time.

I invite you guys to have a look on it, it will take you 5 minutes at most to understand how to use it.  Click away and explore and I think everything on the site is self explanatory.

Bookmark this page on your laptops, netbooks, iPads, Androids and iPhones:

It will still render beautifuly on even your Smart Phones but rememer this Public Advisory: Do not use your phones when you are driving.  Plan your route before you drive.  Or have someone look over this other than you.

Safety first guys, we want to be *smarter* than traffic and not cause accidents 😉

more info via Press Release:

TV5, MMDA provide motorists a better way to view traffic situation via Metro Manila Traffic Navigator

On August 1, TV5 and MMDA launch the easiest and most effective way to view the traffic situation in Metro Manila’s major thoroughfares—the Metro Manila Traffic Navigator. TV5’s five-month old online news portal, InterAksyon.com, powers up the site that can be accessed via www.interaksyon.com, or http://mmdatraffic.interaksyon.com/.

The Metro Manila Traffic Navigator is the country’s first ever digitized traffic information system that lets motorists and commuters view the traffic situation around the Metro in real-time over the Internet. Conceived in line with President Aquino’s call for Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects, the traffic navigator empowers people with information and technology and gives them an instant control — not just over traffic, but over their hours and lives.

The Traffic Navigator provides the public an instant overview of the traffic situation in the metropolis. People at home, in the office or on the road can check out the traffic along six major roads: EDSA, C5, Quezon Avenue, Espana, Roxas Boulevard and South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) via system view, line view or on Google Maps. The MMDA Metro Base updates the situation for no less than 67 intersections every 5 to 15 minutes.

At the Traffic Navigator’s media launch, TV5 also announced the future release of InterAksyon.com’s iPad and iPhone app, which will come bundled with easy, instant access to the Traffic Navigator.

Following the release of its public beta version last June 29, at least 6,000 drivers and commuters have been using the TV5-MMDA Traffic Navigator everyday.

Executed by the all-Filipino cutting-edge web design team, Stray Interactive, the Traffic Navigator’s information design is easy to understand and gives users access to the macro and detailed views of the traffic situation. Online users can also share the traffic situation via Twitter or Facebook with just a click of an icon.

Regardless of the operating system, the Traffic Navigator will run and is optimized for any PC-based or mobile browser. It will run on Wintel computers, Macs, Linux machines, iPhones, iPads, Android phones, Windows Mobile, Opera, and any web browser already installed on mobile gadgets.

Presented in a graphically logical and pleasing format, the Traffic Navigator represents the major roads similar to how subway routes are presented in New York, London and Tokyo; and reports the traffic situation in fast and very simple manner.

Moving forward, the Metro Manila Traffic Navigator will soon cater to other motorists’ concerns and will cover more roads in its monitoring. Other tools and features relevant to every Filipino on the road are already in the works.

Looking back, wasn’t it a season of musical happiness?

Music is a universal form of happiness.  It brings joy to people no matter where they are in the world.  And for us here in the Philippines, we got much joy hearing different local artists work together to mash-up their individual songs and combine them with other artist’s creation.

It’s pretty amazing and lovely how we all can unite, have fun and be happy with music.
