Traveling on a Diet

Traveling on a Diet

It may not be easy to travel on a diet but if you’re dedicated, it is possible.  One of my rules when I’m traveling is "no diet" whatsoever.  Period.  But I had to change that since I was so committed to seeing the results of my current 14-Day diet.

I was on my NESTLÉ FITNESSE14-Day Program.  The good thing is, the cereals are easy to bring along with.  For the 14-Day duration I had 2 travel destinations – one locally in Subic and the other one that was quite challenging was my trip to Jakarta.

For Subic, it was easy for me because I was with my officemates for our teambuilding.  Initially, they all teased me that they’d all be eating buffet for breakfast, dinner and lunch and I’d look SAD not being able to eat 2 meals.  Meh… like I said, it’s all about dedication and your commitment to see the results!

I wrote this down in my last blog post and I’ll write it again, my officemates LOVE NESTLÉ FITNESSE! It’s a good thing that they do because they totally supported me on my diet. They would say "Hey diba bawal ka niyan?" when they see me sneaking into the buffet table, or "Kain ka na muna kahit konti."  So I did that.

alt

during breakfast while we were on team building

It was hard to be so strict on this diet that I had to adjust a little for the occasion.  During dinner I had approximately 3 spoonful of the food from the buffet table, just not to deprive myself.  Those served as "snacks" for me.

As for my travel to Jakarta, it was harder! We stayed at Century Park Hotel in Jakarta and their breakfast also serves buffet!

I didn’t eat the pancakes and waffles but I tried a bit of beef bacon and their local "fried noodles."  Good thing it wasn’t so appetizing, flavor wise, so I celebrated with the fruit and salad section!

alt

Of course, they also had a cereal bar!

I sneaked in my own NESTLÉ FITNESSE cereal because it is richer, more nutritious and tastes better than their cereal selection.

They should include the NESTLE FITNESSE in their cereal table!

Of course, I incorporated fruits to my cereal

The weird thing is, slowly during the diet, I didn’t crave for anything "oily" and "sinful" which is amazing!  Everytime I search for my meals for lunch, I’d make sure they are balanced, not so greasy and healthy.  And for snacks, I look for fruits instead.  It makes me feel fresh, clean and maybe my body doesn’t lie.  Someway, somehow, my body is telling the "decision-making" part of my brain to choose healthy food because it is good for me.

Airports are filled with fast-food restaurants and I am so happy I didn’t crave for any of them.  And I’m glad that part of the diet is to eat one good balanced meal per day – this didn’t deprive me of tasting the local food of Indonesia and Malaysia.

In conclusion, it might be difficult to go on a diet while traveling but if you are committed to it, nothing will stop you.  Plus, your body and brain help you in a way.  When you start the healthy diet, they would help you crave less and decide better on which food to pick.  At the end of the day, it’s all about the choices we make, and every time – we do have a choice.  Let’s pick the right one, the choice that’s good for us :)

Much love,

Flaircandy

Cruising is More Fun with Segway!

Cruising is More Fun with Segway!

Over the week, I went to Rockwell mall to test Segway one more time.

Testing Segway at Powerplant Mall Rockwell

My first time using this amazing machine was back in Singapore.  It was very cool cruising around Singapore’s famous resort attractions with this very light and easy to use gadget / machine / automobile?  Sometimes I don’t know how to call or categorize this cool tool!

segway

I made my research of course and it is called the Segway® Personal Transporter (PT), the world’s first and only electric, two-wheeled, self-balancing transportation device which was first introduced to the public on “Good Morning America in 2002”, and is now available in the Philippines. Unlike a car, the Segway PT has two wheels. However, it does not carry the same risk as rollerblading or skateboarding through the streets.

How Segway works

Segway stays upright by itself, and movement is totally controlled by the rider by leaning slightly forward or backward, and leaning on the Lean Steer frame to turn left or right. You get the sense of power and speed, yet feel a sense of safety and absolute control. It all feels natural, safe, and instinctive.

Segway’s power

Surprisingly, it can go uphill up to 35 degrees, can withstand up to 1-2 inches of water and can go on any terrain!  I can attest to this because I tested Segway in a rocky terrain in Singapore and in a rainy weather here in the Philippines!

image

Who it is for

Segway is ideal for people who love outdoor adventures, or city-living individuals who live in big subdivisions or work in big companies who need to go easily in and out, from one building to another.  I can see this being used in schools too like Ateneo, UP and DLSU.  It is also perfect for business owners of resorts and tour businesses as well as establishments who need patrolling or fast response to emergencies.

Convenience, Environmental and Economic Benefits

Less gas to buy – you don’t have to use your car all the time to buy 3 blocks away from that convenient store.  You can also take it to places without much noise and pollution.  It is also very economical because Segway can travel as far as 40km on a single battery charge.  A full charge is only 1 kilowatt which costs only a little aboe P8 and takes around 6 hours to complete.

Less pollution, more savings, better lungs Smile with tongue out sweet deal!

Nelly Furtado Gangnam Style Manila [Video]

Posted by on Aug 17, 2012 in Celebrities, Entertainment and Lifestyle, Events, Music

Nelly Furtado surprised the crowd by singing and dancing to popular Korean song "Gungnam Style".  With Nelly Furtado during her concert in Manila is the band Gym Class Heroes.

I’m so sorry for the shakey video!

I got so carried away when I saw Nelly Furtado singing and dancing the goofy dance steps of Gungnam Style!

I started dancing while taking the video… forgetting that I am holding the camera.  Silly me!

Thank you to @dayly_ent and @geekynights! Follow them on twitter, they’re awesome!

I LOVE THESE GIRLS!

They’re the first girl band I went crazy with and until now, I still am!  I think, without them, I wouldn’t be this “FLAIR” candy you know now. Seriously!  They inspired me that whole “Girl Power” thing and went well for me all the way!

The London Olympics featured almost all modes of transportation in their closing  ceremony.  One Direction used a huge truck.

Spice Girls used TAXI cabs! Glittered taxi cabs!

and they were WOW!  I got the Goosebumps all over watching them again, reunited!  I really wish to watch their concert, it has been my dream.  And they were so close to performing in Hong Kong which I would have flown for just to see them.

My Flair Life in Color, Rise When We Fall

I spent 2 days in different airports.  Went from one country to another, and I found out that the Philippines was crying because of the habagat.  It was a bit hard for me have fun in my trip when some of my friends were waist-deep in the flood.

I went home via Clark airport and I was so worried that Clark airport might be flooded as well, and my car would be flooded too.  Luckily it didn’t flood in Clark Airport and it is one safe place for my car, rather than I would have left it in my condo in Manila, my car would have been gone.

I got stranded in Clark area because NLEX was flooded and the rest of the roads I needed to cross to go home.

With nothing to do, I was companied by music and color.  I brought my Urbanears with me.  I waited long hours in the airport, and more hours being stuck in Clark.

Urbanears

After the rains and the onslaught of the habagat, we rise again.  As always.

Lyrics Crickets by The Freshmen ft. Allan I Lyrics

I’ve been searching for lyrics for this song everywhere. I couldn’t find it anywhere… So, I just transcribed this myself. Correct me if I’m wrong in the comments below.

the freshmen

Crickets Lyrics

The Freshman ft. Allan Lyrics

So I told her like ooh darling,

I feel like I am falling

I think it be whatever it is they’re callin’

I’m talkin’ bout love (love, love)

My friends say ____

but I don’t really give a f*ck (oh, oh)

Pardon my French girl

I just wanna know what’s up

I told her we should kick it, but all I heard was crickets

Yeah, I’m like, girl whatcha doin’ for today

I’m thinking maybe me and you should go and run away

And that I don’t believe in love at first sight

But after seeing you baby maybe I might

‘Coz when you walked by

I knew you were my type

The apple of my eye

You’re fly-er than a kite

Okay, alright, I know that was kinda corny

But, I’m just warmin’ up

Look at you, look at you all ___ up

Look at me, look at me getting’ __ up

Going down, going down  ______

But hopefully you got the number I can call up

And if you go girl that would be super,

These chicks have but you so much cooler

And I was hoping she would give me a chance

She walked by and didn’t give me a glance, damn

I told her like ooh, baby

I’m so amazed by everything that you do

So I told her like ooh darling,

I feel like I am falling

I think it be whatever it is they’re callin’

I’m talkin’ bout love (love, love)

My friends say ____

but I don’t really give a f*ck (oh, oh)

Pardon my French girl

I just wanna know what’s up

I told her we should kick it, but all I heard was crickets

Yeah, yeah

I said girl, what you doin’ on the weekend

And she said I don’t even know, depends

You the one that I’ve been seeing in my dreams in

Maybe we can get together in the evenin’

I know we just met but fate I believe in

I know the spot where the stars just peek in

If love is deep, I’ll put both feet in

Show me where the sea is, I’ll be in the deep end

Your beauty got me sinkin’

Got me sayin’ all the sh*t without thinkin’

I’ll pro’lly sound like a “spent the night drinkin’”

Are these the lines that I’m always repeatin’

But, it’s the heart on my sleeve

that wanna know if yours might have a spare key

But if you’re a heartbreaker then please spare me

Damn, she was apparently

I told her like ooh, baby

I’m so amazed by everything that you do

So I told her like ooh darling,

I feel like I am falling

I think it be whatever it is they’re callin’

I’m talkin’ bout love (love, love)

My friends say ____

but I don’t really give a f*ck (oh, oh)

Pardon my French girl

I just wanna know what’s up

I told her we should kick it, but all I heard was crickets

In this light, you lookin’ like you’re in-flight

Pretty boys, put a ribbon in your wind pipe

(Hey what’s up?)

silly girl, you’ve been playin’ with me all night

But we could work it out,

I’d be on my ____

Yeah, I heart you have a boyfriend and stuff

I was just callin’ to tell you that it’s cool coz

My other girlfriend got one too… (haha)

So I told her like…

ooh, baby

I’m so amazed by everything that you do

So I told her like ooh darling,

I feel like I am falling

I think it be whatever it is they’re callin’

I’m talkin’ bout love (love, love)

My friends say ____

but I don’t really give a f*ck (oh, oh)

Pardon my French girl

I just wanna know what’s up

I told her we should kick it, but all I heard was crickets

Cirque du Soleil Saltimbanco in Manila

Cirque du Soleil Saltimbanco in Manila

Cirque du Soleil is back in Manila!  After their successful show “Varekai” here in Manila, they are back for Saltimbanco!

I am so fond of watching acrobats and the circus, minus the clown because I don’t like clowns.  But, in all fairness their clowns were too funny for me to get awkward in my seat!

DID I JUST SAY FUNNY? funny, entertaining and inspiring (for me) as a pole athlete and fitness enthusiast.  The artists are awesome and I like dreaming big.  For my fitness goal, my dream is to join the Olympics (when they include Pole in the future) or join an elite Circus like Cirque du Soleil.  I’m one ambitious girl but I’ve got nothing to lose if I dream big, don’t I?

YES, this show is a must-watch!  Check out more pictures, details and Cirque du Soleil Saltimbangco ticket prices here.

This was taken before they announced “No photos, flash or no flash”

Seriously guys, flash could distract the artists.  And even if you don’t intent to turn on your flash, sometimes you accidentally flash them.

And their life is at risk.

Anyway, just don’t bring your camera and enjoy the show!

They are here for a very limited time only! Must not miss it!

Cirque Du Soleil Saltimbanco in Manila show dates:

Thursday, August 9 at 8 p.m.
Friday, August 10 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Saturday, August 11 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Sunday, August 12 at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Tuesday, August 14 at 8 p.m.
Wednesday, August 15 at 8 p.m.
Thursday, August 16 at 8 p.m.
Friday, August 17 at 8 p.m.
Saturday, August 18 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Interview with AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandez

Interview with AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandez

It has been a decade of operations for AirAsia and now that they are moving in to their second decade, they want to do more for their promise “Now Everyone Can Fly.”

Today, August 7, 2012 in Jakarta Indonesia, AirAsia Group launched their regional hub in Jakarta Indonesia – location separate from the operations of their different AirAsia headquarters, yet a place full of economic growth and opportunities as explained by AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandez.

I was psyched to be a part of the press con, together with other publications and media such as CNN, Al Jazeera, NBC, Fox and many more.  It’s a milestone event for me as a hybrid journalist/reporter/blogger.  Just as this day is a milestone for me, same is true with AirAsia asean who aims for the world to be accessible for everyone.  This expansion and a focused location for company strategies marks the beginning of AirAsia Groups growth and expansion plans.

Part of the press con was a pocket interview with one of the people behind the success of AirAsia himself, Tony Fernandez.

DSC_1179

1.  What is your “dream destination.”

Tony: I wouldn’t say a destination really, but to see a football match in a stadium in Rio.  Hawaii would be nice too.

2.  Speaking of “dreams” what are your current dreams for AirAsia?

Tony:  Two things. (1) For AirAsia brand to be as well known as Coca-Cola in Asia, and that (2) AirAsia could evoke nice feelings from the people

3.  What is the secret of Tony Fernandez?

Tony:  Good people.  I couldn’t have built this without the fantastic people surrounding me.  It’s like a current, I give energy to the people and they give it back to me

4.  Tricky “Miss Universe” type question…

Tony: (laughs)

Me:  If you were to choose one: Quantity or Quality? Which is it?

Tony:  That’s a hard question! It depends, for passengers I’d want quantity!  But seriously, I would choose quality.  I would rather have 1 great marketing manager than 25, 1 great tasting fried chicken than 25…

5.  Any message to Filipino travelers?

Tony:  Yes, I think Filipinos were starved of international travel.  It’s either Hong Kong, Singapore but AirAsia wants to offer more destinations, more accessibility.  I want to make Philippines smaller, and also bring more tourists in the Philippines as well.

I enjoyed my interview with Tony as he is very accommodating, humble and honest.  I do hope that his noble dreams will come true, because as a traveler, I would want to have more direct flights and accessibility to different destinations in the Philippines and the world!

On another note, I think I like being a hybrid journalist.  Currently, I see it as a challenge I think I would be good at.  You know me, when something gets me interested, I’m all out with passion in going after it.

Who says you can only have “One” dream?  Me, I dream a lot… and some of them, I have already achieved and once I do the feeling is GREAT!

Keep on dreaming and achieving guys!

Much love,

Flaircandy

AirAsia ASEAN Launched for Regional Expansion

AirAsia ASEAN Launched for Regional Expansion

image

One of the world’s largest low-cost airline’s regional base was officially launched in Jakarta today.

AirAsia aims to commit to the Asean region which it considers its home.  The new regional base aims to focus on the regional expansion strategy of the group.

It was great to be surrounded with media all over the world from publications and TV stations I look up to worldwide.

Just like this moment is significant for me in the world of media, AirAsia’s goal is the same for the whole world to be accessible to everyone.  To make the world smaller for everyone to travel more, truly apt for their mission “Now everyone can Fly”

Start of My 14-Day Nestle Fitnesse Program

Posted by on Aug 6, 2012 in Featured, Health

Start of My 14-Day Nestle Fitnesse Program

I’m a huge fitness advocate. I believe that being “fit” adds quality to your life. You enjoy life when you can freely move and do your everyday chores, and more when you do extraordinary things once in a while. What I mean is, you can’t enjoy “life” when you always feel sick and sluggish. I’ve been on that stage and I think that was the main cause of my self-diagnosed depression. It was horrible times until I finally discovered how fun it is to live “The Good Life” – hence my blog’s tagline.

“Live the Sweet Life with FlairCandy.”

Exercise

We all know this is important. Exercise keeps our heart healthy. I notice that when I exercise, my skin feels healthier too! I’m not sure about the exact science, but I’m sure the whole process of working out has a beneficial butterfly effect on our entire body’s different systems.

· Digestive system – exercise helps better metabolism. The more you exercise, the more you burn. The more you gain healthy muscle, the more you burn. The more effective process of your body absorbing the good minerals. Balanced diet also comes in but I’ll talk about that later.

· Nervous system – I just seem to be more reactive to my environment. My reflexes got better – kinda like Spiderman’s clip_image001I’m kidding of course. But exercise also helps my motor skills.

· Muscular and skeletal system – this one is pretty obvious. You get healthier muscles and sturdier bones.

· Cardiovascular system – your blood circulation improves. Healthier heart – more love <3

· Respiratory system – exercise strengthens your diaphragm and has long term beneficial effects to your lungs

The 4 Letter Word: DIET

Personally, I’m a huge exercise fan – but I’m missing out on the “Eat Healthy” part. Food is just a sweet temptation! I love eating so much (I know I’m not alone in this predicament) that I exercise as much as I could so that I can eat more of the things that I want! But, no matter how much I exercise, I still couldn’t reach my “goal” of losing some inches here and there.

Diet Goals

We all have different goals for losing weight and losing inches. For some, it would be “to fit in my jeans again”, “to fit in my wedding dress”, “so I look good in a photoshoot”, etc.

For me, my goal is simply just to look good doing my favorite sport – “POLE”

I don’t think I’m fat or anything like that. In fact, that’s the reason why I simply don’t go on any “DIET” at all and just eat whatever the heck I feel like eating. It’s been like this for years for me.

Going on a Diet

I enjoy exercise and I have no problem doing it everyday.

My BIG problem is, I enjoy eating my favorite food. I don’t enjoy being on a diet. I don’t enjoy limiting my meals. I like my FREEDOM when it comes to my eating habits.

But then again, too much freedom can cost you. Freedom is only good when you have discipline. And this is my current goal: to discipline myself to achieve my body’s goal. I know I have toned muscles underneath that layer of fat I have in my body because of the exercise that I do, and my challenging Pole classes.

But, in order for my “muscle cuts” and abs to be visible – I need to lose ‘em fat covering it. I don’t just want a flat stomach, I want my abs to say “Konichiwa” to the world! One day, I dream they will show up at least for once in my life. I have very challenging genes and it’s my families’ problem part – that stomach and thighs ugh… to some women, it’s just easy, but to me it would be very challenging but nevertheless, I’d like to think it’s not impossible so we’ll see.

That’s why I decided to go on a diet – a sure and healthy way of losing fat.

Whole Grain Nestle Fitnesse Cereals

Whole grains are a great source of fiber. It helps your digestive system to be as effective as it can be and it should make you full and have less cravings.

They recommend to replace 2 of my daily meals with Nestle Fitnesse cereal, skimmed milk and fruits, ensuring of course that my third meal is nutritionally balanced. And of course, with exercise!

Day 1

I’m nervous that I might not stick to the program because I’d crave! But I understand it takes dedication and I NEED this to work for me. I want that fab body!

Now, I want to be transparent in doing this program so that we can see if this works or not. Today I start with:

Weight: 119

Waist: 28 in

gosh, I didn’t know I’m at 28! geez

The thing is, I stopped measuring. At this point, a lot of people I see lately say “I lost a lot of weight.” I was absent from pole class for a month, and I just came back this week and my teachers say “Hey, you lost a lot of weight” (compared to a month ago). And I am so confused, because when I step on the weighing scale, I’m heavier than ever. I believe I’m at my heaviest right now!

Then I did some research.

Since I’ve been doing pole for a year now, I significantly gained muscle mass. To check out my pole activities, you can go to my pole diary: http://polediaries.tumblr.com

They say, muscle weighs more than fat and while maybe I lost some fat from 1 month, I gained weight from muscle.

That’s why I don’t weigh anymore… I believe, you’d feel better and you will know the difference if your diet and exercise are effective when you fit better in your clothes!

This is it! I’m doing this!

My breakfast.

Good news is, this cereal tastes GREAT! Especially when you put your favorite fruit.

For dinner, I included mixed fruits for variety.

And as proof that this cereal tastes good, my officemates are loving it too!!!

My box of cereal lasted me only 2 days because a few of them tried it! Some of them made it into a snack and ate it without milk.

Yummy!

And another officemate of mine tried it with SOYA milk. I thought it would taste weird, but it’s also actually pretty good!

And of course I told them that it only costs 99 PESOS!

So they can buy it for themselves and they were like “REALLY? 99? Sulit (worth it)!”

This is Day 1. We’ll see what happens in the next few days. I bet I’ll have challenging times since my team and I are going out on a “teambuilding” with buffet for ALL meals!!!

It will be a challenge!
