Agoda’s Top 12 Best Rated Hotels in the Philippines for 2012

Agoda just released their list of Top 12 hotels in the Philippines for 2012 based on Agoda.com customer reviews.

Top 12 Best Rated Hotels for 2012 (Philippines)

Hotel Name

Star Rating

Average Score

Angeles Beach Club Hotel

Makati Shangri-La Hotel

Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort & Spa

The Peninsula Manila

Hibiscus Garden Inn

Puerto Princesa

Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa *

Mactan Island, Cebu

Take note that this survey is based on Agoda.com’s customer service reviews.  I am a user of Agoda myself and you would know that the user reviews are legit because only the ones who booked, payed and stayed in the hotels can review them therefore, “troll-ing” this survey is highly unlikely.  Most of the users would also be encouraged to write a review because of Agoda’s reward points system (giving 500 points to every customer review).

Makati, Cebu and Boracay properties dominate the Top 12, but then an outlier hotel from Angeles City took the top spot.  Incidentally, the Top 1 hotel – Angeles Beach Club, was also chosen by Agoda.com as one of the world’s most OTT (over-the-top) hotels in 2012.  Also note that three Shangri-la brands made it to the Top 12.

About the results (from Agoda.com)

  • Free from PR embellishment, reviews that appear on Agoda.com are written by actual customers only after they have completed their stay, and as such are an accurate reflection of an average visit.
  • When customers review a hotel, they are asked to rate their stay based on various criteria, including value for money, location, staff performance, cleanliness, comfort, and food. These scores are then averaged to get that customer’s overall rating of the hotel. To find the top-rated hotels for 2012 per country, Agoda.com took the sum of all customer ratings on a particular hotel and divided that by the number of reviews to get the hotel’s final ranking.
  • To qualify in the Top 12 screening, the property must at least have 100 customer reviews.

Sun Cellular Name Your Number SIM for only P59

Sun Cellular Name Your Number SIM for only P59

Last night, I had dinner with a few other Tech enthusiasts and we also got updated with the latest happenings on Sun Cellular network.

with my former co-worker Alora Guererro and of course, the online guru to health and wellness, YogaJane :)

Customization is IN

There’s something about customized items that really gets you interested, isn’t it? Customized tailored suits, customized shoes for running and customized phone number!

As far as I can remember, my friend who had his number customized to put 6 “zeros” (09xx-5000-000) cost him about Php 20,000!

Expensive right? But hey, you can do this now with a new Sun Cellular sim card that you can buy at Sun Shops for only P59!

So yesterday night, I got to try this feature, along with other bloggers. I was resisting to tweet about it (until I have taken domain of “HANNAH“) … unfortunately, it is already taken – so I just went with my alternative “FLAIRC“.

Sun Name Ur Number SIM

This is a first time a telco in the Philippines as offered this feature.  Sun Name Ur Number SIM – a prepaid SIM which allows subscribers to choose their own mobile number for FREE.  Be it 0943-9-SO-POGI, 0942-8-I-KIKAY or 0943-8-INLOVE.

This service is usually offered to postpaid subscribers only, but now, prepaid users can customize their last 6 digits to their liking.

On top of this feature, Sun Name Ur Number SIM also comes with a Sun Call and Text Combo 50 load which is valid for 5 days.

It comes with

  • 200 Sun texts
  • 200 texts to other networks
  • 70 minutes of Sun calls

all for only P59.

Hurry before someone else does!

How to Customize your Sun Cellular Mobile Number

1.  Insert sim card on your mobile phone and turn it on. Your sim is not activated yet until you set your custommized number.

2.  Dial *247# and follow the instructions

That’s it! 2 steps :)

Here’s a screenshot of how I selected my own Sun Cellular Customized Number

Enter your desired 6 digits

If your customized number is already taken, it will give you a list of alternatives, close to the number you picked.

It happened to me because “09XX-X-HANNAH” is already taken

I put 09XX-X-FLAIRC instead :)

Hurry before someone else does!

FREE Internet with SmartNet Now Offers Yahoo! Services

I have been a fan of SmartNet since they announced this about more than a year ago.  Not only does it give you FREE Internet access to major social media networks like Facebook and Twitter, it also gives you handy tools such as REAL TIME load balance updates (for prepaid) and usage (for postpaid).

Read previous blog post about SmartNet here.

Evolution of SmartNet

Smartnet used to be exclusive for Smart Netphones.  A few months later, they made SmartNet downloadable to Android users, then to iOS, then to WindowsPhone.  Before it used to offer free SmartNet, Twitter and Facebook social media internet gateway, just recently, it added Yahoo! services to its roster.

Yahoo! Services

A new version of SmartNet for Android users can now be downloaded!  Now with free Yahoo! Services.  This includes FREE use of Yahoo! Search, Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! OMG.

This new version of SmartNet will soon be available on iOS and WindowsPhone too!

This new version of SmartNet will soon be available on iOS and WindowsPhone too!

  • Because it is FREE!
  • The SmartNet app can be downloaded on Android, iOS and WindowsPhone
  • SmartNet is ABSOLUTELY FREE (just maintain at least P1 balance for it to work)
  • Real time view of your load balance
  • FREE internet access to Facebook, Twitter and now Yahoo! Services
  • Safe Browse – enables you to control internet usage.  Turn off Internet 3G so you won’t be charged data (and still use SmartNet with this).  The button can be installed on your wall so it’s accessible.

Real Time view of account balance

This is the safe browsing button.  When it says “SmartNet” it means you are only connected to the FREE SmartNet network.

this means you are using “charged internet”

you can set it at your convenience.

It will prompt you if you’re about to use regular internet access too :)

I use iPhone now 😛

I can view my Facebook and Twitter friends’ updates for free! AND – I can reply to them immediately, FOR FREE!

Updating your status is fairly easy.

So… Are you taking advantage of SmartNet?

Asian Secrets Lulur Indonesian Whitening Body Scrub

Asian Secrets Lulur Indonesian Whitening Body Scrub

There are days when my skin just feels like it needs attention. This might be due to the weather or my stress levels. When I see it scaling, dry and a but rugged, I know it’s time to exfoliate.

I just jumped out of the pool for cardio exercise when there it is, horrible looking skin. I cruised through my supplies cabinet and hey, I have this new product to try!

Asian Secrets Lulur Indonesian Whitening Body Scrub

A Javanese Beauty Ritual

Asian Secrets Lulur Indonesian Whitening Body Scrub has Green Tea and Vitamin E.

The feel: the cream feels smooth and the tiny scrubs are fine. Sometimes, body scrubs leave my skin red after I use it (it always does and I’m used to it), but Lulur didn’t give me that!

From the package it says “Dermatologist tested and Hypo-allergenic” – yaye for people who have sensitive skin like me. The feel was quite nice and my skin didn’t feel irritated.

The after-smell

What I love about Lulur is that you get to feel fresh and nice after application.  Trust me, it’s not a strong scent, but a lasting after-smell that I know this is the scent that your nostrils would love to chase.

Whitening, Exfoliation and Youthfulness

According to the packaging description, this body scrub also has whitening effect.  It’s a plus for people who wants to even out their skin tone.  Exfoliating does the job of renewing old skin cells and making way for younger cells :)

Packaging description

Asian Secrets Lulur Indonesian Whitening Body Scrub is a beauty treatment which originated from the royal places of Java, Indonesia and inspired a ritual called lulur.  Lulur was originally intended for the bride-to-be in order to beautify, smoothen and whiten her skin before the wedding day.

  • Lulur beads gently exfoliate and remove dead skin cells to smoothen and give it a radiant glow.
  • Frequent usage reduces skin pigmentation and evens out skin tone by getting rid of dark patches, especially in areas prone to darkening like the elbows, knees, armpits and the area between the thighs.
  • Contains Green Tea and Vitamin E to help protect the skin and keep it healthy.
  • It also has moisturizers that leaves skin with a light fragrant scent.

Asian Secrets Lulur Indonesian Whitening Body Scrub

Scrub all over your skin especially the dark areas while it is dry to remove impurities, dead skin and dirt.  Rinse with water.

Sometimes, I use this to scrub my lips too – to take away that flaky dry overskin that looks saggy when you apply lipstick!  I also love using it on my underarms – to get rid of that stubborn deodorant residue.

You usually use body scubs 3x a week or every other day.  Others like to use it only twice a week.  It’s up to you but definitely, keep your skin glowing and healthy by using this at least twice a week.

Asian Secrets Lulur Body Scrub Price

And now for the practical question: How much is it?  I’m not sure if the price is updated, but for this tub, it costs around P130.  My! Great value there.  I estimate that this tub could last me for 2-3 months!  Great value there.  Share it with your mom, sisters, brothers and dad.  Guys need some exfoliating too sometimes. 😉

Spray Conditioner – Schwarzkopf BC Bonacure Hair Therapy

Spray Conditioner – Schwarzkopf BC Bonacure Hair Therapy

So today, I ran out of conditioner. It was a really bad time to lack conditioner because I just got out of the pool.

Chlorine just doesn’t do well with a colored hair! Bad combo!

And so I scowled my cabinet for some emergency conditioner supply and found this!

It’s a spray conditioner by Schwarzkopf BC Bonacure Hair Therapy. It’s the very first time I encountered a spray conditioner in my life and it works pretty convenient for me!

All you need to do is do your shower routine. Shampoo your hair and rinse. On towel dried hair, spray the conditioner around. I used about 5 sprays. Don’t forget to shake it before use.

It really surprised me that it worked pretty well.  Without conditioner, my hair would usually be very tense and super tangled!  But when I sprayed this on, I was able to comb easily.  This tool is also perfect for people who are in a rush!

Here are a few other benefits you can get out of it:

  • Balances the moisture levels within the hair
  • Smooths and and protects the hair’s surface
  • Improves combability
  • Creates healthy, natural shine without overburdening
  • Hyaluronic Acid Derivative: injects moisture into the hair structure
  • Amino Cell Rebuild Technology: repairs the inner hair cell structure
  • Lightweight Emulsified Silicone Oil: prevents hair breakage and split ends
  • Panthenol: provides essential moisture

As for the cons, I haven’t experienced any odd effects yet.  So far, so good :)

Unfortunately, this can be only bought at Schwarzkopf places, they exclusively make this kind of product.

You can BUY this product from Amazon though for only $10. Just click on the BUY button below :)

Do you know any more hair products like this? Let me know :)

New Scents in Manila: Adore and Aqua Fresco Fragrances

New Scents in Manila: Adore and Aqua Fresco Fragrances

So, I was watching this movie “Perfume,” when a package arrived for me.  It’s the latest collection ofAdore and Aqua Fresco Fragrances for me to try on.  Perfect timing, because at that time, the movie was all about this man who was very gifted with scent.  He traveled and had a few adventures to create the “perfect scent.”  I’m not going to spoil the movie for you but all I can say is, it is quite interesting.  Yes, if you’re sick of the usual plots you see in movies, try watching this one.

There’s one saying that goes “Nothing is more memorable than a smell. One scent can be unexpected, momentary and fleeting, yet conjure up a childhood summer beside a lake in the mountains.” by Diane Ackerman.

Adore Fragrances for Women

True enough, while I was scenting the fragrances, one of them smelled a little bit like my perfume before and reminded me of college.  I thinkn one of the most senses that are taken for granted is the scent.  But yes, if there is visual and audio memory, to me I have a scent memory (whatever you call that).

I categorized the Adore fragrances in two.  One set is a collection of cologne scents and the other, Adore Body Sprays.  My favorite: Chic cologne for her and Charmed body spray.

Visit your nearest grocery stores to get your own set! This is the choice of Fragrance by TV personality Tippy Dos Santos. Choose from Kiss, Flirt, Chic and Innocent colognes and for the body sprays, there’s Wicked and Charmed.

Aqua Fresco for Men

Guys, don’t be jealous.  There is quite a good range of colognes and body sprays for you too.

This is the choice of famous celebrity star Xian Lim.  On the Aqua Fresco cologne collection, they have Intense, Speed, Rush, Radical and Drive.  For their body spray: Edge, Rock, Nirvana and Enigma.

Well, don’t just trust my word for it, go ahead to your nearest grocery store and check these different scents out.  For me, men should find their scent that would match their persona.  Get this right, and it is a quick turn on for the ladies (especially me).

Gluta C Intense White – Get Even, No More Darkies!

Posted by on Jan 21, 2013 in Beauty

Gluta C Intense White – Get Even, No More Darkies!

Let’s face it. Everyone has their own insecurities and most of the time, we want to keep this a secret from others because we still are in the process of improving ourselves and trying to let go of that insecurities. Most of the insecurities we have are physical. We can’t wear sleeveless, bikinis and swimsuits because we’re afraid our underarms and our exposed bikini line when wearing bik traainis would get scrutinized.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. You may not be fully aware of it but these areas of concern are very delicate to begin with. You might be experienceing hyperpigmentation, or excessive skin darkening on these sensitive areas of the body.

Causes of Hyperpigmentation

The common cause of skin darkeing is exposure to the sun’s UV rays and there are many other factors that can trigger it. Here are a few examples:

• Wearing tight clothes and underwear
• Excessive sweating or rubbing
• Irritation from chemicals found in deodorants and antiperspirants
• Hormonal changes (ex: during pregnancy)
• Shaving / Plucking underarm hair
• Dead skin build-up
• Improper hygiene

Unfortunately, this condition is more common in women, especially women with darker skin.

Of course, there are ways to remedy these concerns. I recently chanced upon this new product that might just help me with uneven skin tone in some delicate parts of my body!

Gluta-C Intense Whitening Underarm & Bikini Skin Whitening Gel

Gluta-C, a trusted brand in whitening and skin care, introduces Gluta-C Intense Whitening Underarm & Bikini Skin Whitening Gel, a revolutionary new product that addresses this problem.

Formulated with whitening ingredients

  • Glutathione
  • Vitamin C
  • and Bellis Perennis (Daisy) Flower extract,

It lightens dark spots, prevents melanin formation, and visibly whitens underarms and darker toned areas (bikini area, inner thighs, elbows, and knees) for even-toned skin. Green Tea extract and other moisturizing agents hydrate the skin, keeping it soft and smooth to the touch. protein helps slow down hair regrowth, reducing the frequency of shaving or plucking. Hair grows back softer and thinner too, making coarse stubbles a thing of the past.

Use Gluta-C Gel as a Deodorant!

I’m not sure if you are aware that there’s a difference between deodorants and antiperspirants. Deodorants battles the bacteria that causes the odd odor emited from our underarms. Antiperspirants are, from the name itself, products that stop your underarms from perspiring. Although antiperspirants are helpful when you do strenuous activities and important functions (since having sweaty underarms could be embarrassing too), there’s a debate whether these are healthy for your skin or not. So I suggest, when you don’t really need to use antiperspirants, just use this.

Gluta-C Intense Whitening Underarm & Bikini Skin Whitening Gel comes in clear gel form that absorbs quickly and more efficiently than creams. It is cool and refreshing, plus it leaves no sticky residue. Since it contains no alcohol, perfumes, and parabens, it is safe for sensitive skin. Its antibacterial properties also help deodorize underarms.

But if you really need to use an antiperspirant, apply Gluta-C first, let dry for a moment and use your antiperspirant.

Apply a pea-sized portion on each areas once or twice a day, after morning and evening showers. This lasted me a month :)

Benefits of Gluta-C Whitening Gel:

  • Softens and smoothens skin
  • Delays hair regrowth
  • Gentle and mild on the skin
  • Moisturizing (I don’t like how some deodorants would leave my skin very dry and flaky!)
  • Deodorizing
  • No sting feeling
  • Antibacterial
  • Fragrance free

Gluta-C Intense Whitening Underarm & Bikini Skin Whitening Gel comes in a 20ml tube that retails for P199.75. It’s available at the following outlets:

Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall and Winter 2013: A Mix of Mismatch

Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall and Winter 2013: A Mix of Mismatch

I have always enjoyed crowd-watching in Hong Kong. When it’s spring or summer, you would see vibrant colors in their wardrobe from shoes to bags and accessories. Come winter time, you get to see the locals strut the city streets with hip boots and cover-ups! With this, I didn’t let the chance to cover Hong Kong Fashion Week just pass by.

I receive invites to different countries to cover some events. Malaysia, US, Singapore, HK and in some random way, Myanmar. These invites don’t come with plane tickets though (most of the time), meaning I have to take care of my own flights from the Philippines to the destination. Maybe they think I’m a local? This happens a lot when Malaysia companies invite me.

For Hong Kong fashion week, I splurged on the tickets and booked accommodations with a budget of P10,000. With my super powers in budgeting, I was able to fill everything in.

I was in Hong Kong for 2 full days only. That means, accommodations I booked were only overnight, but I was still able to go full day at the Hong Kong Ocean Park, walk around the parks of Tin Shui Wai, RnR time at my hotel’s spa and of course Hong Kong Fashion Week by the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

I have a gift in maximizing my resources. *Wink* *wink*

Themes of different designs were not just a mixture different colors, but of patters and textures as well.

Since autumn and winter clothes mean layers and layers of fabric, it’s a perfect opportunity to match the mismatch.  Yes, I saw a lot of stripes over polka dots and plaids over crazy prints!

Hong Kong Fashion Week

In Asia, Hong Kong is a thriving hub for design and branded labels. The Hong Kong Fashion Week and the HKTDC World Boutique is a remarkable evidence of such importance of the Fashion industry in Hong Kong.

But all this, is more than fashion itself. HK Fashion Week focuses more in the business side of fashion.

Mind I tell you, there were about 1,600 exhibitors that participated in this year’s HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter.

Everything was pretty much highly automated and their systems ran efficiently

Registration is actually free.  You can register at HKTDC’s official website.

Details about the Hong Kong Fashion Week can be found here.

Register for HK Fashion Week Spring / Summer 2013 here.

Yes. It was a BIG event! LITERALLY! I think I walked more than a kilometer inside the “realms” of HK Fashion Week today! I was going back and forth the different halls at different floors of the Exhibition Center! It was like it could never end!

One floor was quite huge enough for me, then I realized that the fair grounds cover 3 floors!

HK Fashion Week happens twice a year. The. Autumn / Fall event happens on January and the Spring / Summer edition happens in July. If you want to catch the Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring / Summer, you might want to plot these dates in your calendar: July 8-11, 2013 and register here.

This is actually is the 44th edition of HK Fashion Week. This is my first time attending the event but I can say that it is just as vibrant as I expected it to be! Even if there’s a stereotype to Winter or Fall Fashion as dull and gray, that is not the case here in Hong Kong. It was a brilliant kaleidoscope of styles, colours, fabrics!

This was an open display and one of the sections to the many features of this year’s HK Fashion Week for Fall and Winter.

To respect the designers, photography of their designs is discouraged.  If ever I took some photos inside, it was just to see the entire venue, the crowd or just a wide view of the different items you can see inside.

I was walking around hoping to chance upon Filipino designers, but I failed to find any. I tried to cover every corner, every function of the event, but it was impossible to do so in 1 day and my time was sparse!

A total of about 1,600 exhibitors participated in Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter

There was a diversified representation of different fashion tastes from different boutiques. Notable spots come from the exclusive designs of labels such as IKA BUTONI, Eutropic, Groupe Pronuptia and 3M to trendy value-for-money fashion from MUSE, Focus, Sub Zero, Gulliver and Orient.

There were also different sections that cover niched intrests like avante garde shoes and Lady Gaga-like shades! For the more highlighted sections: Denim Arcade, Handbags, Men in Style and Salon of Scarves and Shawls.

Of course, you get to see the more popular features like Intimate and Swim Wear, Bridal, Evening Wear, Accessories, Fabrics and Yarn, Sewing Supplies and many more.

They also had the Small Order Zone for groups of suppliers who can handle small volume orders. Like I said, it is more of the business side!

HK Fashion Week usually offers seminars for free on a first-come-first-serve basis.  Some are for invitation only

Same is true with the Fashion Show.  You can view almost any show you want but you need special invitation in some shows.

A day isn’t enough.  Next time, I’d spend at least 2 days.  The fair usually happens in 4 days.

And next time, I don’t want to miss the seminars and the fashion shows!

World Boutique

Specially featured for participants all over the globe, World Boutique showed high style of garments and accessories. Highlight of brands encompassing Che Che New York, MARCCAIN, Pashma, Adlib, Sumy Kujon, IKA BUTONI and Walter Ma.

Over 460 brands participated this year and there were over 15 runway shows this year.

They’re definitely good in mixing creatives and business!

This year, I did not only see a graceful crash of patterns and colors, I also saw the clash of different textures and materials. A plethora of mix and match of different elements. Who would have thought crazy ideas like this would stand out?

By this time, I was already very tired and must have walked at least 2 kilometers inside the convention.

‘Til the next Hong Kong fashion week then,

Kantipur Temple House, Eco-Hotel in Thamel Kathmandu

Posted by on Jan 14, 2013 in Featured, Nepal, Travel

Kantipur Temple House, Eco-Hotel in Thamel Kathmandu

On our last day in Nepal, we were booked at Kantipur Temple House in Thamel Kathmandu. It is walking distance to the shopping center and night life of Thamel, but at the same time, quite situated away from the chaos which was just perfect.

After our long drive from Pokhara and exploring the places on the way like Bandipur and the Trisuli River, Niraj of Himalayan Encounters invited us for dinner and took quickly around Thamel.  Here I got to see the markets still alive at night bustling with tourists and people enjoying then night.  It was a Monday night though and Niraj said, it is more active on the weekends.

We wanted to get a massage after the entire day’s activities but we decided to head back to the hotel to rest and relax.

First Impressions

I’ve already seen pictures of Kantipur Temple House and I was very excited to stay in this hotel mainly because of the architectural design and its features.

Outside view of the hotel and its hallways

We arrived at the hotel at night and even though it was quite a bit dark to judge the entire building, I felt like I wasn’t only in a different country, but I felt like I just stepped inside a time capsule.  It has modern facilities but the design and structure preserves the traditional nepalese architecture.

The Hallways are quite dramatic.

*cues Game of Thrones theme song cover by Jiggypuff*

C’mon hit PLAY!

The hotel seems like a temple on the outside that serves a tranquil setting.  But you can also take advantage of the beautiful landscaped gardens and pation because it has ample space for dining and meeting areas.  The rooftop terras has panoramic views of Kathmandu and the surrounding hills.

Our room

I actually felt like I was in the TV series “Game of Thrones” or one of those movies set in medieval time.  The rooms are appointed with heating and hot showers.  Wifi is free in common areas like reception, restaurant and garden, but sometimes the signal goes up to our room.

Game of Thrones? Should be Khaleesi and Khal Drogo’s room or something

The room doesn’t have air conditioning facilities.  They provide fans in summer and electric blankets and hot water bags during winter.  It was autum when we were there so the room temperature was just comfortable even without using A/C or electric blankets even.

Our bed with electric blankets. Take note of the deco above the headboard.  There are detailed carvings by hand, a common craft in Nepal.

They also don’t provide televisions in the hotel rooms.  This forces you to INDULGE in your holiday experience away from modern chaos.  You have no choice but to enjoy your vacation and have quite a few serene time for rest.

The Patio – view from our room.

Door to our room. Wooden Floor.

“No Plastic Policy” – they don’t give you water bottles, instead they serve you free water inside these jars :)

Social Responsibility

One feature that’s quite unique for Kantipur Temple house is that they are one of the finest eco-hotels in Kathmandu.  Apart from the aforementioned no A/C, no TV policy, they also care for environment preservation and this is their priority while providing their customer’s needs.

Kantipur Temple House is an eco-hotel with a social responsible philosophy.  The hotel tries to protect the environment and preserves the cultural heritage of Kathmandu Valley.  In doing this, they do the following:

  • Solar heated water is provided to all guests for bathing.
  • Towels and bed sheets are not changed everyday unless specifically requested.
  • A green purchasing policy using local materials and food has been adopted.
  • Traditional architecture and construction methods are used in building and maintenance.
  • “No plastic philosophy” is maintained.
  • Purchases made for the restaurant are done without using polythene bags.
  • Mineral water bottles are not sold to guests, instead free water is provided in jugs.
  • An in-house waste management system of biodegradable waste is set up.
  • Employment opportunities are given to locals.
  • All staffs are encouraged to volunteer on clean ups of heritage sites.
  • There are no televisions/bathtubs/AC/central heating system to avoid excessive energy consumption. We use traditional and energy saving mediums for comfort like hot water bags, electric blankets.

There’s really nothing special about the restaurant.  Like most hotels in Kathmandu Valley, they offer Nepali, Indian, Chinese, Thai and Continental cuisine.

One notable thing about the food selection though is that the restaurant provides an Organic selection and offerst most of the food fresh and home-made.

Other Facilities

They offer the usual:

Free Wifi Service in the common areas like reception, restaurant and garden.
Free Use of Internet in the Hotel’s Computer Center
Tailor-made guided tours to Kathmandu Valley’s cultural heritage sites.
Exclusive tours all over Nepal, from city tours, rafting and trekking.
Laundry Service
Restaurant Room Service

Hang-out areas

The Hotel’s cat :)

Outside the tall gates of our hotel – MONKEYS!

Wild monkeys are as common as stray dogs in Nepal.

Here’s another beauty. A GRAY CAT! First time I’ve ever seen one by this color.

Din Tai Fung Taipei Famous Xiao Long Bao Restaurant from Taiwan

Din Tai Fung Taipei Famous Xiao Long Bao Restaurant from Taiwan

You can never go wrong dining in Din Tai Fung if you want authentic Taiwanese food!

Din Tai Fung is a popular Taiwanese food chain that even opened branches in other countries such as Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, the United States and Thailand. I often wonder, when will they ever open one in the Philippines? That way I wouldn’t have to worry about finding flights to Malaysia or Thailand just to eat at the restaurant.

This restaurant has been highly recommended by my friends and when I saw the name of the restaurant on our group tour itinerary, I was just ecstatic!

Me, Kevin (thank you for this photo) and Mica

We ate at Din Tai Fung during lunch time. In the morning, we visited the Eslite bookstore known for their great selection of books, opening 24 hours a day. Believe me, 30 minutes to roam around wasn’t enough! I got lost a few times! Then, from here, we walked all the way to Taipei 101. It was a great opportunity for exercise! I’d like to thank our tour guides for that. We did all the eating we could get in Taipei and walking around the city was such a relief! It was very cold at that time with temperatures dropping at 12 degrees Celsius at night and 18 degrees in the morning with breezy wind which makes it even colder!

Who would complain? None of us did. We actually loved the winter weather which we don’t have here in the Philippines.

I got natural rosy cheeks because of this.

And because I didn’t know we were walking to Taipei 101.  I left my DSLR in the bus >.<

Which means, my Din Tai Fung photos were captured by my HTC Chacha.

Appetizers and in-between servings

Condiments. Sauce. Ginger, Vinegar and Soy Sauce

Spicy Cucumber

Rating: 4.5/5

I’m telling you, I’m not a fan of cucumbers.  But this one was admittedly quite yummy!

Hot and sour soup, perfect with a little vinegar.

Rating: 4.5/5

It’s just the perfect soup to start your meal especially when you’re hungry.  Warming up the stomach for the feast that’s about to happen!

Yang Chow rice served in the middle of our meal

Rating: 4/5

simply because it wasn’t too salty nor bland.  It was the perfect blend.

Garlic Spinach

Rating: 4/5

Maybe because I’ve tasted better, but it’s good to have fiber in our meals.

Taiwanese pork chop sprinkled with herbs and spices

Rating 3.5/5

Nothing too special about this one.  But yes, I taste authentic taiwanese chops :)

Xiao Long Bao

It was HEAVEN on a SPOON! or chopsticks – or whatever!

Rating: 5/5

Din Tai Fung is famous for their juicy, handmade Xiao Long Bao (小籠包).  It’s that dumpling with soup inside.

HELLO!?! Best Xiao Long Bao in the world!!! To think I’m not a huge fan of dumplings, this just got me really excited!

Note to self: Don’t write another food blog entry when you’re hungry… like right now… it’s quite a torture!

Writing this article made me crave for another Xiao Long Bao BUT HELLO!?! We don’t have Din Tai Fung in Manila!  Or maybe I can go try this in other local restaurants that offer one.  Any of you recomment a good Xiao Long Bao restaurant in Manila?

Xiao Long Bao is best eatin as soon as possible while the meat inside is fresh and the soup is warm with that tender texture of the delicate wrap around it.

For our table, we were apportioned 6 Xiao Long Bao per person. THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!

We were offered quite a selection of dumplings like Crabmeat, Siew Mais (Siomai), vegetables and meat dumpling, spicy dumplings and others.  I really couldn’t remember everything anymore because everything all happened so FAST!

It all happened so fast, my attempt to take photos of all the dumplings on the steam bowl was a fail.  Instead, I took a photo of the dumplings I “dumped” on my plate 😛

Spicy dumplings, Crab and vegetable dumplings

Vegetable Dumpling

Rating: 4/5

Shrimp Siew Mai

Rating: 4/5

I really wasn’t able to note what kind of dumpling this is, because they all look the same on the outside.

You’ve gotta take a bite to find out!

Oh, I want to take just one bite!

Yes, everything all happened so fast, by the time we finished taking photos of the dumplings, another set comes in.  Which just means, their service is really good and quite fast!  The servers were also very polite and I see them smirking everytime we get really excited about our food.  Food coma is love!  Thank you for the great service!

Fast service

The servers did everything to make our dining experience happy!

Red Bean Dessert

Rating: 4/5

A perfect way to end the dining experience.

It was a feast we definitely enjoyed and this is one food trip you shouldn’t miss along with the Shilin Night Market.

In Taipei, you definitely need to prepare your appetite for awesome food, and your feet for walking exercise!

Baoan Temple in Taipei and Indulging into Taiwan’s Way of Life (Bao’an)

Baoan Temple in Taipei and Indulging into Taiwan’s Way of Life (Bao’an)

The Baoan / Bao’an Temple

Taipei is a very exciting city! One could appreciate more how the people of Taiwan go about their way of living when you visit some of the temples in the area.

It is inevitable to talk about religion and the Japanese colonization upon visiting the Baoan Temple. Our tour guides asked about the main religion in the Philippines since they also want to get to know us a little bit more. With that, they also shared that the two main religion in Taiwan is Taoism and Buddhism.

I don’t fully understand the main components of Taoism but from what I got from their introduction, Taoism is all about living in harmony with the “Tao” that means path, way, or principle. Their gods are usually people who lived extraordinary lives and made a great difference in their community.

As for Buddhism, I was quite familiar of it when I visited Nepal. Nepal actually is mainly Hinduism, but I visited a few Buddhist temples there and I felt peace. Buddhism is all about enlightenment and self-awareness. You associate this religion with the words Nirvana and Enlightenment or Inner Peace.

It is important to keep an open mind when you travel. Experiencing their culture and way of life is a part of the whole experience.

The Baoan Temple or the Bao’an Temple is dedicated to the Taoist God of Medicine. It is worth visiting for to see preserved Taiwanese temple architecture including the wonderfully made ornate roof sanctuary. This is where you will learn how the temple was built for a quarter of a century during the Japanese occupation of Taiwan. During that era, they used this temple as a language school and factory. For years, it was neglected and was just refurbished in the early 1900s.

I recalled the tour guide mentioning dragon pillars as the Baoan Temple’s main feautre. With this we also noticed a pair of stone lion decor that were actually quite unusual. Normally, of the two lions that guard a temple, the male has an open mouth and the female has a closed mouth. However in this temple, both have open mouths. Then I recall that the guide made joke how in the modern world, the female is the one who has an open mouth because we are quite talkative – especially the wives. But that’s just a joke, don’t be silly!

Back to the lions, they said they are not really lions at all but a “human beast” and a “law beast.” The meaning of all that is still quite a mystery to me. Maybe this was the part where I was already goofing around with the other tour members 😛 But seriously, I think it’s all about respect with the law and carrying out good government.

As I strolled along the insides of the temple.  I noticed a few people forwarding their prayers to the diety and a person droping 2 pieces of stones asking the gods to answer his question.  I actually forgot how it works but I think it’s this:

  • 2 stones fall open means YES
  • 1 stone falls open and another falls closed means NO
  • 2 stones fall closed means DON’T ask any more questions.

Crumpler Ultimate Exit Bag Review: For the Travel Savvy and Gym Bunny

Crumpler Ultimate Exit Bag Review: For the Travel Savvy and Gym Bunny

I went back to my hometown in Bacolod and chanced upon passing by our owld Bowling center.  It was empty!  I felt sad because bowling is just so much fun!  It’s a social sport.  You bowl and hang out with your friends over a few food and drinks.  Best part is, it is healthy!

I miss those days.

Speaking of old-school bowling bags, my next bag for review is exactly just like that.  Crumpler’s Ultimate Exit bag looks very vintage athletic.  It’s a one-size-fits-all-needs and genre defying combo of schmick sporty chic and shopaholic strength capacity.

It comes in different colors but my ultimate favorite is the combination of gray and yellow.   Like the one I have here!

Ultimate Exit
P 3,750

It’s a perfect bag to travel for me.  When I travel, I can’t let go of my SLR, phones and iPad (which I use as map and tour guide).  These things won’t fit on an ordinary, low-strength straps build kinda bag.

The handles are comfortable to use because it is padded.  Plus, it has a detachable shoulder strap that gives you options on how to carry this chic bag.  The overall design ensures you come quickly to grip with loads of any shape or size.  A bonus, it has three internal stuff pockets that help sort order from the usual girly bag chaos.

“Strong is the new SEXY”

Storage Zones

The insides were designed to hold three internal stuff pockets, including one witha  velco closure.  This is all zippered in the 29 litre main compartment

Padded Carry Handles

The handles come cushioned with EVA foam which gives maximum comfort to the user.  The handles are quite ergonomic and moulds to the natural contours of your hand and fingers

Detachable Shoulder Strap

You can carry this bag in many ways.  One option is to use the detachable shoulder strap if you want to free your hands to hold other things.  Complete with velcro fasteners and tri-grlide buckle system, the 25mm wide shoulder strap helps distribute weight evenly and will go to almost any lengths to make you comfortable.  I appreciate designs like this.  The people behind this bag look out for a normal-day bag concern from the most of us.

Water Resistant

The bag’s exterior is made from water resistant materials.  Don’t just throw it in the pool though, that’s such a silly move!  It just means that this bag is protected from rain, harsh weather, dust and some other external factors.

Guaranteed for Life

The good thing about Crumpler bags is that they offer a life guarantee for most of their products.  They constructed the Ultimate Exit with durable materials and reinforce the joining and/or stitching on al stress points.

Get this bag at your nearest Crumpler Stores: Trinoma, Bonifacio High Street, SM Megamall, Robinsons Manila.

Crumpler Headaitch Review: Your Everyday Bag

Posted by on Jan 9, 2013 in Bags, Fashion, Featured, Style Flair, Uncategorized

Crumpler Headaitch Review: Your Everyday Bag

I don’t settle with just any bag.  To me, a bag must be a wonderful partner in my daily life.  A friend once told me that her mom would reprimand her if she doesn’t bring any bag with her because it’s so “un-girly.”

A girl carries a lot of things: makeup, power planners, gadgets, dogs?

Unlike guys, we don’t wear pants all the time and we don’t have access to pockets mostly.  Even if we do, we would look like stuffed lumpiang shanghai with all the things we are trying to carry!

On a normal day, I’m a pretty busy chic.  I carry the above mentioned things (except for dogs).  I prefer carrying an oversized bag sometimes because I would totally look more petite with it 😛 I’m kidding.  That just means I can stuff many things like umbrella, scarf and other items if I shop around.

So, I was looking for a perfect new partner and I found this bag from Crumpler to be quite a match for me.

Crumpler bag Headaitch

It’s not just for me.  It’s also for beach bums, gym junkettes, student chic and retail therap-ettes!  You have all the space you want with this carefree tote that can care most of it all!

Flexibility and Accessibility

Don’t be fooled.  This bag is designed to sort order from chaos.  If you check out the compartments inside, you will se a combo of sealable internal pockets.  You can carry it off or on your shoulder with the essentials readily accessible.

Go shop in Divisoria and you won’t worry about getting snatched.  Everything remains covered up from inclement weather and light-fingered fiends!  Observe precautionary measures of course!  But trust me, thieves would get turned off if they see you carring this bag because it won’t be easy for them to dig in.

Wide Straps

The wide shoulder straps gets you more power when you carry more stuff.  The Headaitch’s dual 42mm 900D and 150D Rip-stop shoulder straps helps to distrubute the weight.  My doctor doesn’t recommend shoulder straps for me because I have scoliosis but sometimes I JUST have to wear one!  I can’t be wearing backpacks all the time!  This wide strap helps me on that angle for even just a bit :)

Waterproofing Measures and Anti-Abrasive Surfaces

One great thing aobut this bag is that it gets protected from rain, hail (haven’t really experienced one), sleet, snow, beer or mixed drinks.  The bag was designed to have a 900D outer, 1000D reinforced base and zippered 150D Rip-stop main compartment.  If that’s to technical for you, it just means it is designed to weather the storm and keep what’s in it dry.

It’s a perfect bag for surfers like me!

It’s a good investment to buy a bag that lasts.

Tough Build

Speaking of bags that last, you’ll get this as a prime bonus!  – A lifetime guarantee!  This bag is designed to outlist its lifetime guarantee with super strength materials I mentioned above plus an injection moulded velcro and bonded nylon thread with reinforced stitcing on all stress point.

 Price:  P2750

Get this bag at your nearest Crumpler Stores: Trinoma, Bonifacio High Street, SM Megamall, Robinsons Manila.

Don’t Do What You Love to Do for a Job

Posted by on Jan 9, 2013 in Personal

They say “Do what you LOVE to do and you’ll never work a day.”

I say, “Do what you’re good at.” Work is just work.  And when you DO what’ you’re good at for a job, work is just gonna be easy.

I’ve been there, done that.

Sometimes, when you do what you LOVE to do as a JOB, it gets political and people, clients and everyone else would dictate how you do your job (which you love).  It would take its toll on you.  The great PERIL in this situation is that you would lose interest on the thing you LOVE to do.  It happens to me quite a lot of times and to a few friends as well.

A friend LOVED video production.  But when he started doing it as a job, he lost interest.

Another friend loved graphic design.  But, when dictated here and there on how he needed to do his job, he lost interest.  Instead he’ll focus on the thing he’s good in doing.

Don’t get me wrong, you might ALSO be really GOOD in the thing you LOVE doing, but the main peril is – you could lose interest. Worse, you lose PASSION. Has this happened to you too?

But, if you do what you’re good at (but something you don’t love as much and doesn’t mean much to you)… you would finish work on time, and even if they dictate how you do your work – it would be easy for you to adjust because you are AWESOME at what you are doing. Again, work is just work… It’s what we do to get our bills payed, and fuel the expenses in doing the things we love.

If you’re good at your job, it shows – and your career path will headed towards the sky.

I just realized that I am AWESOME with Excel problems.  I work fast and I know the functions and stuff.  If anyone wanted me to fix an Excel problem, it’s just easy for me.

It all depends though.  Some people can work their way around and are happy doing what they love as a job.

How about you?  What are your thoughts?  What do you think?  I might be wrong so share them away on the comment section below.

Blog Stress

Posted by on Jan 8, 2013 in Uncategorized

I don’t know if you noticed, but my blog comments have gone bonkers on me and my readers!  One time, the comment section totally disappeared and right now, ALL comments (even the legit ones) go to my SPAM!

It’s frustrating when I have to filter my comment section one by one, when new spam arrives every 2 minutes!

I am contemplating on migrating my blog into Blogger again.

Life and blogging was just really easy for me.  Wordpress is amazing – for people who know how to program and customize it.  But as for me, I just want simple AND functional.

It’s so frustrating.  Now I need to check if I can do a migration smoothly.

Good luck to me!

A Healthy and Beautiful New Year!

A Healthy and Beautiful New Year!

I’ve had enough New Year’s resolutions and one thing I just want to keep is to stay healthy and take care of my body (and mind).  This is just a quick post so that I can immortalize my goals and put it on my blog for the public to see.

Laziness is a sin for me and I cannot tolerate that for myself.

Here goes:

1. Pole and dance more

2. Yoga and meditation for the body and mind

3. Gym and group exercise for my cardio. (The only key to burn stubborn fat)

4. Martial Arts by mid year.  Let me start with boxing.  Kung fu is nice when I progress

5. Skin, hair and beauty care.  The goal is to look younger as I age :) It is not impossible!

6. Travel more.  I think it’s the reason why my eye sight got better.  from -75 -75 vision to -25 -50, It’s a miracle
