Surfing at The Park, Real Quezon

Surfing at The Park, Real Quezon

Where were you this Holy Week?

I’m sure you all went to the beach, the mountains, spend it with family and what not.  But, I also know that a few of you, needed to work on the Holidays?  Isn’t that right?  I am no exception!  I had a few paperworks and write-ups over the Holy Week.

But, Saturday came and I’m finally free!  So, I wanted to drive some place to surf.  According to magicseaweed.com, West Side isn’t happenin’ and East Side of the Philippines got some decent swell.  I couldn’t drive to Baler or Bagasbas coz I heard it will take quite some time… and I lack sleep because I’ve been doing a marathon for Breaking Bad.

Anyway, my next option was Real, Quezon.  A new acquaintance who I met through one of our surf trips in Liwa, told me that he goes frequently to Real.  He said it takes 2 hours. — 2 hours what??!?! I drove for 3-4 hours!  The trip was longer than I expected, it was full of zigzags.  I had to drive at night on our way back home – dark, no street lights.  But I found it quite relaxing, I drove windows down, with music on full blast!

Stoked with my banana board.

It’s a 6’10” but it’s not really your typical short board.  It’s short, but you can ride it like a long board and pick-up waves at will.    It works for both big and small riders.  It’s manoeverable and easy to paddle

Finally, we arrived!

Real Quezon Surf Spot review

  • Waves – decent and clean, consistent (for a msw forecast of 2-4 ft.)
  • Crowd – for Holy Week season – not crowded at all (line-up at least, but there were a lot of other people swimming, camping
  • Facilities – Could be improved, outdoor showers weren’t working, too few toilets
  • Activities – Surfing, river rafting, camping and other beach sports
  • The drive – smooth roads from Ortigas Ave ext., 2-laned, but really dangerous because of a lot of zigzags and curves so you have to be careful.  I was averaging 40 kmph to  60 kmph on the curves and was only running at 80 kmph because of tricycles, and it was pretty dark at night
  • Travel time: 3 – 4 hours
  • Restaurants and dining areas: this I didn’t have any chance to explore.  They have a store that might prepare pancit canton and other stuff for you but as for real restaurant, haven’t chanced seeing any in this area.  So I guess it’s best to say, bring baon if you need to.  I didn’t need any because I went on an afternoon trip
  • Accommodations: I did a day trip so I never got to experience this.  They do offer overnight stays at affordable rates.

Facial Care Center Luxurious Pampering

Facial Care Center Luxurious Pampering

Healthy skin never gets out of style!  That’s why we need to take care of it inside and out.  We eat healthy, and we nourish our skin with the pampering it needs.

External factors play a great role in giving problems to our skin too like polution, stress, weather and humidity.

Our efforts in keeping beautiful, youthful skin never-ends and we shouldn’t. Skin is a very big part of our daily wardrobe.  Taking care of it also says a lot about your personality.  If you take effort in taking care of yourself, it also shows that you are capable of being responsible with other factors in your life.

For one day, I decided to visit one of Facial Care center’s branches in Eastwood.

Take note that when I do make a review of any beauty product, I always emphasize the fact that what could work so well for me, might not work all good for someone else and vice versa.  I also try to describe my experience in general and using my senses.

Since our skin concerns vary, Facial Care Centre offers a personalized skin program based on your specific needs.

Optilight – For women who want to counter the effects of prolonged sun exposure such as freckles and sun spots.  This treatment yields results 3 times faster than any other forms of IPL.  Clearer, blemish-free skin may be achieved in no time.

UltraFace – For those who wish to get rid of chubby cheeks and sagging jowls without resorting to risky surgery.  This treatment is the first of its kind to combine ultrasounda nd radio frequency.  This treatment breaks down fat cells and gently recontours and tightens the skin for a slimmer, more proportionally-shaped face.

LaserLight Soprana – For thos who wish to achieve hair-free perfection.  The latest laser hair removal treatment that can permanently get rid of unwanted hair anywhere in the body.

Apart from these services, they have other revitalizing services that would sure fit your every needs.

I spoke with a consultant before I decide what treatment to get.  After quickly examining my face, she concluded that I have whiteheads and blackheads.  It’s hormones, stress, the weather – yep a combination of those that’s the culprit.  With that, I need to get rid of dry skin that clogs and blocks dirty oils in my pores.

This is the treatment that the consultant recommended.  It’s a very luxurious facial that’s both pampering, repairing and recharging.  It’s a mix of sugar, spice and everything nice (figuratively speaking).  Repechage is a 4 layer treatment from New York that nourishes, rejuvenates and stabilizes oil glands. It improves skin tone and soothes the skin, leaving it looking and feeling refreshed and invigorated for days.

4-Layer treatment from New York: Facial Care’s Repachage

Me getting prepped for Facial cleaning and the pampering Repachage

They got me changing into a robe so that my clothes won’t get crinkled or wet.

Headband to get hair out of the way

My Repachage treatment was about to start.

First Layer.

I don’t even know why I’m taking pictures at this point – all for the love of blogging and sharing this experience.

Second layer

vanity pic!

3rd layer – this felt really relaxing!

It was very cool – and really relaxing.  If you want, you can have your eyes coered too – which is really really relaxing, but for claustrophobic folks like me, we usually want to leave the eye area uncovered.

Last layer!

This was a bit hot when applied, then it forms into your face’s shape

This was the mask used on me!

What can I say?  Overall, it was really a relaxing experience.  Very luxurious and pampering indeed!  This would be a perfect regular treatment for your skin!  This would definitely give more life to your skin – giving you extra glow and that healthy feeling.  When all this was being done, I fell asleep while waiting for the mask to work.

F1 Malaysian Grand Prix 2013 Result – Sepang Circuit

F1 Malaysian Grand Prix 2013 Result – Sepang Circuit

I’m supposed to be in Malaysia right now to watch F1grand prix, but I had conflict of schedule… Anyway, I am still able to catch it via Star Sports!!! OH THANK YOU FOR THAT!!!

Sebastian Vettel wins F1 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix

Here are the results of the F1 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix:

Pos. # Driver Team
1 1 Sebastian Vettel Red Bull
2 2 Mark Webber Red Bull
3 10 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
4 9 Nico Rosberg Mercedes
5 4 Felipe Massa Ferrari
6 8 Romain Grosjean Lotus
7 7 Kimi Raikkonen Lotus
8 11 Nico Hulkenberg Sauber
9 6 Sergio Perez McLaren
10 18 Jean-Eric Vergne Toro Rosso
11 17 Valtteri Bottas Williams
12 12 Esteban Gutierrez Sauber
13 22 Jules Bianchi Marussia
14 20 Charles Pic Caterham
15 21 Giedo van der Garde Caterham
16 23 Max Chilton Marussia
17 5 Jenson Button McLaren
18 19 Daniel Ricciardo Toro Rosso

Not classified: Fernando Alonso, Paul di Resta, Adrian Sutil, Pastor Maldonado

Red Bull team has been really going strong… There are two factors to the success of this Grand Prix – car and driver.  Vettel, has been doing really great and has been consistent with his performance.  Red Bull has been there to support both Vettel and Webber.

Kimi Raikkonen, as interviewed, again is frustrated with his car.  It wasn’t good enough… I do believe him, and I know and witnessed his talent – he is a great driver.  He was also frustrated when he was with Ferarri  and I agree, Ferarri’s cars lately weren’t as good as before.

Anyway, I hope I’d see more twist and turns (literally and dramatically) throughout the season.

‘Til the next time!

Mrs. Graham’s Macarons in Manila

I really don’t get why people are so into macarons! I was watching that Gossip Girl episode when Blair was coping up with her problems by eating a box-full of macarons!!!

I really don’t get it, I tried a few and to me, it was just some normal dessert.

Oh, little did I know that I just haven’t tried a really good macaron! Seriously!

So when Cheryl of littlerunningteacher.com told me about Mrs. Graham’s Bakery that makes macarons with different unique flavors, I was sure to give macarons another try.

BEST macarons ever!

It might be too sweet for some, but I think that’s really how it should be.

If it wasn’t, the macarons would just taste bland.

I know… don’t they look delicious? You should definitely try them!

Salted Caramel

Inside-out Smores

Cookie Dough

Malibu Rum

Tequila Rose

Tequila Rose

Nope, it won’t get you drunk! But they do got the flavor

I also ordered a box of Inside-out smores – their BEST SELLER!

The texture is very rich and it will fill your tongue’s senses! I’m pretty sure it will!

I love every bite!

and EVERY bite counts!

I was so into it, I ordererd a few more.

Booster C Energy Shot Review

Booster C Energy Shot Review

I ran out of Berocca and looked for other things I can chug from our cupboards.  I needed an energy booster drink of some sort – not just caffeine, but something more.  I read the product details of Booster Energy Shot and it’s actually quite interesting!

So, in a shot of Booster C, you’re actually supposed to get these active ingredients and nutrietnst hat you commonly find in the natural foods you eat.

Vitamins and Minerals Booster C Energy Drink

A vital amino acid found in the body essential for tissue development.  It helps eliminate free radicals to improve organ function.  No free radicals = no cancer, isn’t it?  Taurine is naturally found in seafood, milk, egg and meat.

This has been used for thousands of years to enhance overall wellbeing and health.  It increases energy, reduces fatigue and improves the body’s defences.  Ginseng is naturally found in the roots of a ginseng plant

Royal Jelly

This has rich essential proteins, enzymes, lipids, vitamins and minerals.  It’s known to promote brain development, decrease exhaustion and reduce infection.  Royal Jelly is naturally found in honey bee.

Of course, you know of caffeine to increase one’s overall physical and mental energy, enhancing alertness, reaction speed, concentration and memory, and determination.  Caffeine is naturally found in coffee bean, tea and raw chocolate!

Inositol is known as the “brain food”.  It is essential for brain nutrition and nerve function.  It also is important for protection of cells in the bones and intestines.  Inositol is naturally found in cabbage, raisin, grabefruit and orange

B Vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B6)

The B Vitamins promute energy production by converting the body’s fats and carbohydrates into usable energy.  B Vitamins also helps in manufacturing amino acids to rejuvenate cells.  Other important benefits include enhancing brain and memory function, improving muscle performance and increasing overall immunity and resilience.  B Vitamins is naturally found in leafy vegetables, fish and meat, fruits and whole grains.

Interesting set of Vitamins!  and the best part is that it is sugar-free and has only 21 calories!  But this one is packed with long-lasting, crash-free energy.

It is sweet enough for a sugar-free booster drink – but the taste is quite something! It is drinkable of course!  It just tastes like one of those cough medicines… Berocca tastes way much better in my opinion.  But the taste isn’t as bad as you could imagine.  Besides, all it takes is one gulp anyway! This thing is tiny.

Effectivity and Energy (Does Booster C Work?)

I felt a jolt of energy right after I drank it.  Maybe also because my body was reacting to the taste but hey, effectivity wise, it works for me.  There were nights I need to stay up at night to get something done and this drink was a good company.  It does the job! I was up all night trying to finish something!  I might want to pack this when I go on a 6 hour surf trip next time!

Where to buy?

I’m sorry about the price, I really don’t know because I just found this in my cabinet.  I bet it’s affordable though.  It sure is one tiny investment to make your day longer and more efficient.

This is readily available at 7 Eleven stores!

Have you tried it yet?  How did it work for you?

Open Malls on Holy Week 2013 MRT LRT Schedule Philippines (Official)

Open Malls on Holy Week 2013 MRT LRT Schedule Philippines (Official)

Where are you staying for Holy Week?  If you’re staying just within Metro Manila, then you would be interested in what malls open or what time the lrt and mrt operates during holy week.

I feel bad because I don’t have any plans for Holy Week yet… anyway, I don’t see any announcement yet on mall’s schedule during the Holy Week or mrt and lrt schedules but here’s what I think would happen based on last year’s Holy Week.

MRT and LRT Holy Week Schedule in Manila (official, confirmed by MRT LRT Spokesperson)

– no MRT and LRT (Holy Thursday) – (Easter Sunday) for maintenance works

– on Holy Wednesday: (this is my estimate based on last year’s info)

LRT last trip at 8 pm for Line 1’s Baclaran and Rooseveltstations; and Line 2’s Santolan and Recto stations.

MRT last trip at 10pm from North Ave. station and 10:30 from Taft Ave. station

– on Monday, MRT and LRT resumes at 5am

Shopping hours and Mall Schedule during Holy Week (unofficial, my estimate based on last year’s info)

– SM Malls: CLOSED on Holy Thursday and Good Friday.  Except for SM Baguio which will remain open from 10am – 10pm on both days.  Some shops and restaurants by the SM Mall of Asia Veranda and the bay area will remain open.

– Malls closed on Holy Thursday and Good Friday (opens on Saturday)

Glorietta, Greenbelt, Market! Market!, Trinoma

Note: this is not inclusive of all malls.

– Bonifacio High Street, The Fort is usually open on Holy Thursday and Good Friday (some select stores).

NOTE: It is best to call the mall first before going.

Or just have a staycation at home, watch movies… or drive to the nearest beach… 😉

Crumpler House of Horror – Gadget Bag Backpack

Posted by on Mar 12, 2013 in Bags, Fashion, Tech Chic, Travel

Crumpler House of Horror – Gadget Bag Backpack
There are a lot of fashionable bags in the market with great design and of different sizes and shapes.  But finding a stylish bag that’s comfortable to carry your brick-like laptop is quite difficult to find.
Most often than not, I get rashes from straps that aren’t designed to equalize the weight distribution properly, harming my skin, sometimes leaving a scar for a while.
For a person who also has scoliosis, doctors would normally suggest backpacks instead of totes or shoulderbags.  All these benefits and things I need for my back are in House of Horror.
Like most Crumpler bags, this bag is guaranteed for life.  That’s an investment you need to make to protect your gadgets especially my expensive MacBook and iPad.  You can’t match those gears with a cheap and gruntled design that’s easy to break!
The House of Horror has 5 pockets: Quick access front zippered pocket, concealed  top opening zippered stash pocket, zippered top opening main cargo space, interior padded sleeve with velcro closure for up to a 15-inch laptop and interior zipped side pocket.
Comfort is not an issue with the House of Horror.  It feels good on my back, despite the heavy load.  Manily because of the even weight distribution.  The pads are soft yet strong designed to hold the shape, while moulding naturally to the contours of your hand or shoulder.
The shoulder harness is also quick to adgust.  I didn’t struggle much from adjusting the straps and the buckles are just easy to adjust.
This bag is a bit pricey at P4950 SRP, but the one thing that makes House of Horror a good investment is the durable quality that’s guaranteed fo life (as I mentioned ealier).  Plus, the materials are made from water resistant structures, even the zippers as well!

The Circle Hostel – Budget Surf Trip in Zambales

The Circle Hostel – Budget Surf Trip in Zambales

My name is Hannah Villasis, and I am addicted to surfing.  Check all of my surfing blog posts here.

picture by Philippe Villareal and Cheryl of LittleRunningTeacher.com

There was a time when I would surf every week for 3 months.  All my savings went to surf trips.  It was a whole lot of fun… I WAS BROKE haha!  I do sound like a legit addict.  I got busy though and I had to forego surfing to earn real bucks travel and stuff.

The sea has been calling me lately.  I do think that I’m a mermaid or a gypsy in my past life.  I just love to travel and I love the ocean especially.

You know what, I just realized that I don’t have to spend so much on surfing anymore.  I can just drive 3 hours to Zambales, stay at a cheap hostel that fits my budget and worry about nothing else – just fun, surf, swim oh and a whole lot of art and friends!

Oh thank heavens for The Circle Hostel.

It’s not your ordinary accommodation.  Here, you don’t get a fancy room with A/C, TV, fridge and all the fancy things a regular hotel room offers.  Nope none of that.  But let me tell you something, it was an experience that surely brought out the best in me.

It’s not your usual hotel accommodation, but it definitely has its charm!  It is ranked high on TripAdvisor as well!

Typical budget for overnight (including gas or bus fare, accom, food, etc) – P1,000!

This was my bunk bed. It was surprisingly comfortable!

I often sleep alone at my solo apartment – it was quite lovely to share this huge cabana with friends and new acquaintances!

If you’re iffy about your belongings, they have a locker for you :)

An alternative to the luxury you get from a regular hotel accommodation is nature, art, fresh air and new friends.  On our stay at the Circle Hostel, I didn’t even get to use my gadgets!  Poor iPad – I never touched it at all.  It’s a shame how we have so much to enjoy in this world – and they’re free.

– The smile of a stranger

– The laughter of friends

– The air that we breath

– The sea that gives us a good ride

– Creativity through art and painting

– Good food

– and awareness of our body through Yoga and meditation

It’s also amazing how you can create a game out of throwing a plastic disk – Ultimate Frisbee time!  My glutes were activated so badly, they were swollen the next day – good work out! I should do this more often!

I brought my hoop to take a few videos of me hooping by the beach – just for vanity’s sake really.

I can share with you my experience about this place all I want but bottom line is, you need to experience it for yourself :)  Spread and share the love!

First-time surfer Cheryl got some good rides! woohoo!

Crumpler Flock of Horror – Your Everyday Gadget Bag

Posted by on Mar 11, 2013 in Bags, Fashion, Tech Chic

Crumpler Flock of Horror – Your Everyday Gadget Bag

Crumpler has been really creative in their bag designs and their naming system. For the name “Flock of Horror” for a bag, you’d think it’s a scary, haunted, crazy bag – my imagination just runs wild but simply, it’s a house for your everyday gadgets!

I don’t know how many percent of the population in Manila comprises of office people but this bag is surely for them and for the daily commuters as well.

The design is unique with its flip top cover.  Secure enough to seal the zipper.  I think it will do a good job fooling thieves don’t you think?  Although, you’d think this bag is small – but it can actually fit a 15-inch laptop!

You can carry it like a tote, backpack-like or a sling bag.

Storage Zones

One thing I love about Crumpler bags is that they have a lot of pockets and separate room for your things, making them the most organized bags you’ll ever have.

It has five storage zones:

– Quick access front zippered pocket

– Concealed top opening zippered stash pocket

– Zippered top opening main cargo space

– Interior padded sleeve with velcro closure for up to a 15-inch laptop

Comfort in Carrying

Flock of Horrer has padded carry handles.  This is meant for carrying the bag comfortably despite the weight.  You know how our laptops could weigh like a ton of brick sometimes!

The padded carry handles are soft, but sturdy strong.  The bag’s foam padded twill weave carry handles are designed to hold their shape while mounting naturally to the contours of your hand.

What a relief!  I always get rashes from strap burns.  I’m not sure if most of you get this too.

The shoulder harness is also adjustable.  You know how petite I am and I need the strap to be a little tighter.  The shoulder harness features a 38mm soft webbing strap design with easy-to-adjust buckles.  This way, you can position it exactly where you need to ensure an even and ergonomic weight distribution.

Water Resistant

For a gadget bag, you’d want to invest on a water resistant portable storage.  Flock of Horror is one and it does the job of protecting your gadgets.

The Flock of Horror is designed from water resistant materials and water resistant zippers for maximum protection in wet weather.

Life Guaranty

When you invest in a Cumpler bag, you usually get a guaranty for life!  House of Horror is no exception.  They constructed this bag with ultra durable materials and reinforce the joining and / or stitching on all stress points – carrying Crumpler’s famous lifetime guarantee.

They do have a waiting area for patient’s companies, but the patients usually go straight to a private room for consultation and have the option to exit straight to the parking lot area.  The interior and the rooms present a lush environment designed to keep patients relaxed and comfortable.  I bet you’d feel like a prince or princess every time you try their treatments.  I will try their sculpting program soon, hope you’d join me! It’s summertime soon!

When a guest enters, they are escorted directly to a treatment room, where soothing, ambient music is but one element of the consultation experience. Another is the design itself, which was imagined by Gruppo Espazio, a prolific, Manila-based interior design firm that also conceived the stylish Le Spa at Sofitel Philippine Plaza.

Living, vertical gardens spread out over the walls of the center, breathing life-giving fresh oxygen into every room.  The ambiance is like being in a hidden rainforest, a world away from the stresses and toxins of the city. Warm, cozy lighting and soothing ambient music complete the sensory experience. Even just setting foot into the center already helps improve one’s mood and well-being.

Everyone loved it because it was very easy to apply.  Just spray it and you’re good to go.

Celeteque Eye Tuck plus Dark Circles Lightener Product Review

Celeteque Eye Tuck plus Dark Circles Lightener Product Review

Celeteque had a get together with their media friends and bloggers over at Las Flores in Taguig.  Can I just say, good job on the venue!  I have been working at The Fort but I didn’t seem to know of this place.  The tapas were superb!  This definitely was my definition of the GOOD LIFE.  Good food, great friends, great people and a healthy outlook in life.

Speaking of the “good life,” I just want to share that it is my daily goal.  To live life fully – the good life.  After years of trial and error, I just concluded that it is just a simple formula:  balance.

But all this good life won’t mean anything if you don’t take care of yourself.  I was talking about how I love outdoor sports, the ocean, the sea and all this.  And despite the fact that I’m a low maintenance girl, at times you just really need to take care of your skin.

Celeteque is one of brands that my skin likes.  I have used quite a few of their products.  Back then you would only see toner, moisturizer and facial wash in supermarkets, but now they have a wider range of skin care products!

Eye Tuck plus Dark Circles Lightener

Your face is very transparent.  It shows when you are stressed or you haven’t been sleeping lately.  This sweet deal can counter the effects of your saggy bags!  How does it work?  It counters the formation of loose skin surrounding the eye area and fighting water accumulation.  What? so you mean it’s not all about not sleeping late? (I am like talking in a monologue here so let me just explaing clearly!)

Most people think that lack of sleep is the main cause of dark circles and puffiness that form around the eye area, but the real culprit is accumulation of water and fat!  Fat deposits under the eye create the puffiness, not only fatigue and lack of sleep.  And because the skin under our eye area is thinner and does not have oil glands, the skin gets looser and fine lines and wrinkles develop faster.

Céleteque DermoScience Eye Tuck plus Dark Circles Lightener does the trick in 7 days or less by improving skin elasticity in the eye area, and lightening the skin around it in only 3 weeks.  Simply apply one drop of the product on the forefinger of the left hand and rub together with the forefinger of the right hand. Massage the product very gently on the lower eye area and allow to dry before applying moisturizer or make-up.

So fatigue and sleep are like temporary causes of sagginess but fat and water deposits need more help than just healthy sleep.

You are so not gonna miss you eye bags when they’re gone!

Using this product is a no brainer.  It’s very easy to use, just apply it in the eye bag area after you clean your face at night.  Or you can also apply it before you leave the house, that way, you still get it working on yhour skin.

Simply apply one drop of the product on the forefinger of the left hand and rub together with the forefinger of the right hand. Massage the product very gently on the lower eye area and allow to dry before applying moisturizer or make-up.

Celeteque Eye Tuck plus Dark Circles Lightener is clinically proven to reduce puffiness around the eye area and to significantly lighten the skin around the eyes in just 4 weeks.  After about 5 days of using it, I can already see and feel the difference!

Effect and Timeline

Recent photo. No photoshop just instagram filter 😛

My bags aren’t looking as horrible as my panda eyes before!  I hope to see more results in 3 weeks

The Killers Headlines F1 Singapore Grand Prix 2013

Apart from the usual speed and excitement on Singapore Grand Prix’s race track, the other most awaited event is the main performer for the 3-day event!  This year, American alternative rock sensation THE KILLERS is slated to perform at the Padang Main Stage at the 2013 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix on Saturday, September 21.

I have witnessed a quite a lot of performers so far like The Wailers (Bob Marley’s band) – they were freakin’ awesome, Mariah Carey, Missy Elliot, Adam Lamert and gosh, that one other American idol rock guy.  Anyway, this year it’s going to be exciting!

Get a chance to win meet and greet with the Killers and autograph session with the F1 drivers if you purchase early bird tickets!
