Paragliding Pokhara Nepal – Flair Travels #2

Paragliding Pokhara Nepal – Flair Travels #2

I’m pretty sure every human being in this world would wonder how it feels to fly. To be momentarily suspended on air, your feet of the ground and you float for more than 5 seconds.

Well, like everyone else, I dreamed to fly.

When I went to Nepal last October, I browsed through the activities I could do during my stay.

Apart from seeing the tallest mountain on earth, Mt. Everest, I just had to do something for the first time – flying!

Well, paragliding to be specific.

I have told my friends who went to Nepal to try paragliding. It is really safe and one experience you will cherish.

Here are the things you need to do to make this experience come true.

– Book your flight a few days in advance. We went on October when it’s peak season and slots do fill up.

– For paragliding, a pilot will be paired to you and both of you will be strapped in for flight. So don’t worry. you don’t need to be experienced in anything to do this. all you have to do is ride.

– We booked through Himalayan Encounters and sometimes in a city you are not familiar with, it is best to have a travel agent or a tour guide.

– They have four scheduled times to fly during the day. It also depends on the weather and winds for best time to fly. Don’t worry to much about this, trust that they will tell you the best time to fly.

– We met at their office that will take us about 25 minutes uphill to the Sarangkot mountain top where you are already 1,400 meters above sea level.

– After driving, you need to hike up a little bit, this was my warm-up. There’s a point where vans can’t have access to, so off you go and walk!

– They will prepare the shoot and your seat/strap.

– I suggest you take the option with photos so you can document your flight! I mean this is a pretty expensive activity, might as well document it to last forever! They have go pro cameras that will capture your moment. You can bring your own gear too if you want, I had my DSLR strapped to my neck the entire time.

– This costs only additional $22 dollars or 1700 Nepali Rupees

– Bring sun glasses – the sun is harsh

– long sleeves and pants if you want to protect your skin from the sun. It was windy and chilly in October so it’s okay,

– and bring sunscreen!

– So once the shoot and you’re all strapped in, the pilot will be by your back and he will tell you to run towards the cliff!

– Did I tell you I’m afraid of heights? Yes very much so! But I somehow found a way to overcome this. I stop thinking and just do it!

– These pilots are trained and I trust them. SO RUN I DID!!!

– I didn’t think of anything else but just running towards that cliff! i was too nervous and stunned to document this moment and did not take a video or photo of it :(

– and next thing I knew, i was running with my feet not touching the floor already. I was flying!!!

– hallelujah!!!

– As you enjoy the ride, take photos, enjoy the view of the himalayas :) Enjoy flying atop Pokhara Lake, but don’t wonder about where you’re gonna eat later because if you have a not-so-adventurous stomach, you would feel like vomiting mid way. AND I DID!

– Apparently, this is normal, so the pilot just asked me to tilt to my left and be free to barf. yes.

Here are the signs when the pilots can tell if someone is about to barf mid air:

1. Silence

2. Head bops more than usual

3. They curl with their tummies and clinch fist

4. They ask questions like – how long are we gonna be flying or when/where do we land?

As for me, I just told him directly – hey I need to vomit

– If you are more adventurous (or crazy lol) you can ask them to do a few tricks for you like summersault on air or do a 360 rollercoaster thing. Whatever – do whatever floats your banana boat!

– The pilots can control the height of the shoot. You can fly higher, and of course you need to fly lower if you’re ride is about to be done for landing. You will land at the space near the lake. So I’m thinking, In case I fall, I fall into water.

Surfing at The Park, Real Quezon

Surfing at The Park, Real Quezon

Where were you this Holy Week?

I’m sure you all went to the beach, the mountains, spend it with family and what not.  But, I also know that a few of you, needed to work on the Holidays?  Isn’t that right?  I am no exception!  I had a few paperworks and write-ups over the Holy Week.

But, Saturday came and I’m finally free!  So, I wanted to drive some place to surf.  According to magicseaweed.com, West Side isn’t happenin’ and East Side of the Philippines got some decent swell.  I couldn’t drive to Baler or Bagasbas coz I heard it will take quite some time… and I lack sleep because I’ve been doing a marathon for Breaking Bad.

Anyway, my next option was Real, Quezon.  A new acquaintance who I met through one of our surf trips in Liwa, told me that he goes frequently to Real.  He said it takes 2 hours. — 2 hours what??!?! I drove for 3-4 hours!  The trip was longer than I expected, it was full of zigzags.  I had to drive at night on our way back home – dark, no street lights.  But I found it quite relaxing, I drove windows down, with music on full blast!

Stoked with my banana board.

It’s a 6’10” but it’s not really your typical short board.  It’s short, but you can ride it like a long board and pick-up waves at will.    It works for both big and small riders.  It’s manoeverable and easy to paddle

Finally, we arrived!

Real Quezon Surf Spot review

  • Waves – decent and clean, consistent (for a msw forecast of 2-4 ft.)
  • Crowd – for Holy Week season – not crowded at all (line-up at least, but there were a lot of other people swimming, camping
  • Facilities – Could be improved, outdoor showers weren’t working, too few toilets
  • Activities – Surfing, river rafting, camping and other beach sports
  • The drive – smooth roads from Ortigas Ave ext., 2-laned, but really dangerous because of a lot of zigzags and curves so you have to be careful.  I was averaging 40 kmph to  60 kmph on the curves and was only running at 80 kmph because of tricycles, and it was pretty dark at night
  • Travel time: 3 – 4 hours
  • Restaurants and dining areas: this I didn’t have any chance to explore.  They have a store that might prepare pancit canton and other stuff for you but as for real restaurant, haven’t chanced seeing any in this area.  So I guess it’s best to say, bring baon if you need to.  I didn’t need any because I went on an afternoon trip
  • Accommodations: I did a day trip so I never got to experience this.  They do offer overnight stays at affordable rates.

F1 Malaysian Grand Prix 2013 Result – Sepang Circuit

F1 Malaysian Grand Prix 2013 Result – Sepang Circuit

I’m supposed to be in Malaysia right now to watch F1grand prix, but I had conflict of schedule… Anyway, I am still able to catch it via Star Sports!!! OH THANK YOU FOR THAT!!!

Sebastian Vettel wins F1 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix

Here are the results of the F1 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix:

Pos. # Driver Team
1 1 Sebastian Vettel Red Bull
2 2 Mark Webber Red Bull
3 10 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
4 9 Nico Rosberg Mercedes
5 4 Felipe Massa Ferrari
6 8 Romain Grosjean Lotus
7 7 Kimi Raikkonen Lotus
8 11 Nico Hulkenberg Sauber
9 6 Sergio Perez McLaren
10 18 Jean-Eric Vergne Toro Rosso
11 17 Valtteri Bottas Williams
12 12 Esteban Gutierrez Sauber
13 22 Jules Bianchi Marussia
14 20 Charles Pic Caterham
15 21 Giedo van der Garde Caterham
16 23 Max Chilton Marussia
17 5 Jenson Button McLaren
18 19 Daniel Ricciardo Toro Rosso

Not classified: Fernando Alonso, Paul di Resta, Adrian Sutil, Pastor Maldonado

Red Bull team has been really going strong… There are two factors to the success of this Grand Prix – car and driver.  Vettel, has been doing really great and has been consistent with his performance.  Red Bull has been there to support both Vettel and Webber.

Kimi Raikkonen, as interviewed, again is frustrated with his car.  It wasn’t good enough… I do believe him, and I know and witnessed his talent – he is a great driver.  He was also frustrated when he was with Ferarri  and I agree, Ferarri’s cars lately weren’t as good as before.

Anyway, I hope I’d see more twist and turns (literally and dramatically) throughout the season.

‘Til the next time!

Diane Von Furstenberg for Roxy Surf Wear

Summer is here!  In a tropical island like the Philippines, we have the luxury to just drive a few hours to our enjoy our beaches!  There are also quite a number of surf spots that we enjoy and the ladies have been getting more and more involved with surfing!  We have a lot surf spots in the Philippines!  We are situated around generous bodies of water – South China Sea, Celebes Sea and the Pacific Ocean, giving us a good ride!

The most wonderful part about surfing is you feel good every time you ride that wave.  You brave yourselves to either battle, or go with the waves to get a good ride.  And for every brave heart you give, you gain a whole lot of confidence that trickles down to your entire well-being.  We feel good, and we have to look good!  Why not?  Looking good and gearing up for the challenge gives you an armor of confidence!

Roxy just introduced their latest collection featuring the designs of Diane Von Furstenberg! Here’s a video of Diane Von Furstenberg, sharing her inspiration in designing this collection for Roxy surfer girls.

“Fear is not an option.”

“You should follow your heart like you ride a wave.”

The Circle Hostel – Budget Surf Trip in Zambales

The Circle Hostel – Budget Surf Trip in Zambales

My name is Hannah Villasis, and I am addicted to surfing.  Check all of my surfing blog posts here.

picture by Philippe Villareal and Cheryl of LittleRunningTeacher.com

There was a time when I would surf every week for 3 months.  All my savings went to surf trips.  It was a whole lot of fun… I WAS BROKE haha!  I do sound like a legit addict.  I got busy though and I had to forego surfing to earn real bucks travel and stuff.

The sea has been calling me lately.  I do think that I’m a mermaid or a gypsy in my past life.  I just love to travel and I love the ocean especially.

You know what, I just realized that I don’t have to spend so much on surfing anymore.  I can just drive 3 hours to Zambales, stay at a cheap hostel that fits my budget and worry about nothing else – just fun, surf, swim oh and a whole lot of art and friends!

Oh thank heavens for The Circle Hostel.

It’s not your ordinary accommodation.  Here, you don’t get a fancy room with A/C, TV, fridge and all the fancy things a regular hotel room offers.  Nope none of that.  But let me tell you something, it was an experience that surely brought out the best in me.

It’s not your usual hotel accommodation, but it definitely has its charm!  It is ranked high on TripAdvisor as well!

Typical budget for overnight (including gas or bus fare, accom, food, etc) – P1,000!

This was my bunk bed. It was surprisingly comfortable!

I often sleep alone at my solo apartment – it was quite lovely to share this huge cabana with friends and new acquaintances!

If you’re iffy about your belongings, they have a locker for you :)

An alternative to the luxury you get from a regular hotel accommodation is nature, art, fresh air and new friends.  On our stay at the Circle Hostel, I didn’t even get to use my gadgets!  Poor iPad – I never touched it at all.  It’s a shame how we have so much to enjoy in this world – and they’re free.

– The smile of a stranger

– The laughter of friends

– The air that we breath

– The sea that gives us a good ride

– Creativity through art and painting

– Good food

– and awareness of our body through Yoga and meditation

It’s also amazing how you can create a game out of throwing a plastic disk – Ultimate Frisbee time!  My glutes were activated so badly, they were swollen the next day – good work out! I should do this more often!

I brought my hoop to take a few videos of me hooping by the beach – just for vanity’s sake really.

I can share with you my experience about this place all I want but bottom line is, you need to experience it for yourself :)  Spread and share the love!

First-time surfer Cheryl got some good rides! woohoo!

Vanity shots by the artful rock cubes!

Okay fine! It looks better without my face in the photo!

POSERS!  There weren’t any big waves on our first day, except for some little bumps by the river mouth good enough for the beginners.

Thank you Nivea and Watsons for this awesome SPF spray! It’s water proof and when you’re super in a rush to get on that surf just spray away!

Easy application – especially when you need to retouch some sun protection!

Once again, thank you to Watsons PH for this Water and Sweat (coz I’m a sweaty one) resistand SPF 50 sun block!

This is best applied 20 minutes before basking in the sun.

Oh and thank you Celeteque for the awesome after-sun gel!

Everyone in the team loved using this after getting a little burn from the sun

Eli loves it so much he wants to drink it for sustenance! Crazy guy Eli >.<

Chow time!!! Our meals – homecooked with love by Mommy Phoebe’s

Thank you foor the good food!  We felt so at home :)

My favorite!  I couldn’t get enough of this!

I forgot to ask where they got the garlic longanisa – it was yummy!

Sunset by Liwa beach, Zambales

Thank you Sanuk for these cute designed play cards!

We had a fantastic night playing card games and random games

Thank you Raf of The Circle Hostel for hosting our games and drinks!

Here’s another cute kitty from Mommy Phoebe’s place.

Everyone was doing their own thing in the beach – surfing, skim boarding, swimming, chillin’, frisbee, sunset photography etc…

It was quite a relaxing sight!

‘Til the next surf trip!

The Killers Headlines F1 Singapore Grand Prix 2013

Apart from the usual speed and excitement on Singapore Grand Prix’s race track, the other most awaited event is the main performer for the 3-day event!  This year, American alternative rock sensation THE KILLERS is slated to perform at the Padang Main Stage at the 2013 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix on Saturday, September 21.

I have witnessed a quite a lot of performers so far like The Wailers (Bob Marley’s band) – they were freakin’ awesome, Mariah Carey, Missy Elliot, Adam Lamert and gosh, that one other American idol rock guy.  Anyway, this year it’s going to be exciting!

Get a chance to win meet and greet with the Killers and autograph session with the F1 drivers if you purchase early bird tickets!

PXC 35 Results and PXC 35 Outfit

Pacific X-treme Combat or PXC is quite a new word on my blog.  But, I have learned to  LOVE this sport ever since it was assigned to me on my previous job with TV5.

First of all – it’s full of men with hunka-duba bodies!!! *faints*  ABS! ABS! ABS! Everywhere!  It drives me to stay SEXY so that I won’t look like a total frog beside them!

Second, it’s a serious sport but it’s full of fun!  True, it could be a little violent, but that’s the nature of the sport.  Like any other sport, I believe this stretches the capabilities and limits of a human body.

So, for my outfit that night, I just had to be a little “boyish” and “sporty” – which is a combo I LOVE because it is very comfortable! (as opposed to butt-high skirt and 5ft heels >.<

Red boyfie polo from — I forgot where! One of those bazaars!

Shoes by @iloveellesseph ^_^

bag by @freewayonline

shorts – I think from ukay

Anyway, I was in a rush because I was super late for the event so I only managed to take a photo head down (no full figure photo) boo! I know, bad fashion blogger I am >.<

I was supposed to ask my friends to take photos, but the VIP section was quite visible to everyone watching PXC so uhm… never mind!

Good view! This was where I was seated :)

Oh and look! My TV5 buddies Ram and Gael ^_^

Anyway, it has been decided, that apart from being a “Flair Candy” that I am, I’d also be a social rebel.  Meaning, I just don’t conform to what society dictates.  Society is evil sometimes, but you know, as human beings, we need to deal with it.  I hope it would inspire other women, (and maybe men) teens and even people older than me.  We never stop learning from everyone so I hope I could send a message that we can be who we want to be, follow your heart :)

PXC 35 Calendar and Fight Card

PXC 35 Calendar and Fight Card

If you don’t know anything about MMA, I suggest you watch the movie BOOM!  It was very fun and entertaining, and you would love the sport (If you don’t love it yet).

If you haven’t heard of PXC, then let me give you a briefer.  Pacific X-treme Combat is one of Asia’s biggest and best MMA organizations based in Guam, they soon of course spread there brand to the Philippines and have grown massively since then. PXC has experienced massive growth in both ticket sales and TV viewers.  Since then it has been tagged the fastest growing sport of MMA.

This February 16th, another PXC fight is about to bring you a packed card including a Lightweight Title Fight and an Interim-Bantamweight Title Fight.  This will happen at the Ynares Sports Arena.

Fight Card

Featuring the main event is the Lightweight Title Fight with two Philippine fighters Harris Sarmiento (35-34) and Isiah Ordiz (2-0-0) in what must be a holding fight for the belt that Mark Striegl (12-0) is destined to win during the coming year.

Main Event: Sarmiento vs Ordiz, Tiamanglo vs Tanaka

I was there during the last fight of Sarmiento.  Striegl beat him at 2:37 seconds of Round 1 – I was just getting ready for the fight, and then it was over.  Well, I guess I need to get used to Striegl’s fights.   The odds must favor Sarmiento because of the high quality opponents he already battled, whereas, Ordiz is relatively inexperience.  I was there when Odiz had his last fight too, all I can say is – he is ONE FIGHTER!  Backstage, he kept practicing his moves until the time he was called on stage for his fight.

If Sarmiento wins this fight, he must surely fight Striegl again.

The Interim-Bantamweight Title Fight features Joe Taimanglo (17-4-1) from Guam tackles Japan’s Michinori Tanaka (6-0) these two are both submission experts so expect a highly technical and exciting bout.
