Royal Cliff Hotel Pattaya, View from our Room – Flair Travels

I had a really hectic year in 2014, especially during the Christmas season. I booked all my holidays on 2015. I just realized, I went to 4 countries for the first time! All thanks to my partner airline Philippine Airlines. Not all trips are sponsored, especially this one. But having comfort and peace of mind in mind (sounds redundant), I have decided to always book PAL by choice.

This trip was impromptu, and I booked my flight to Thailand in less than a month’s time for 13,500. I purchased the seat next to the exit too for legroom teehee. If you can afford comfort, especially for long flights, might as well do it. Traveling could also be stressful and you don’t want to be stressed thousands of meters above the sky!

A highschool (and college) friend of mine works for a 5-star hotel in Thailand and they invited me to go over and experience Royal Cliff Hotels.

Can’t say no to having a vacation, especially to a country I’ve never been to.

I have compiled a video of our first day in Pattaya Thailand and have decided to just feature the view from our room at Royal Cliff Beach Hotel. I have seen the pictures but I did not expect it to be this wonderful!

Our flight was early in the morning and we arrived in Bangkok at 1pm. We were picked up by the hotel’s limo and we drove an hour to Pattaya. This is another discussion but I would like to mention the big difference in Thailand’s infrastructure compared to ours. Their roads are wide (you can see in the video), and there is no traffic jam. The streets are clean too!

When we arrive, the friendly staff greeted us with drinks and friendly smiles. The moment they said “Hi” to us, I knew instantly they’re my kababayan. It’s fun to know there are lots of Filipino employees here, I felt at home in this foreign country.

Royal Cliff Hotels Group has four luxury 5-star hotels. Royal Cliff Beach Hotel, Royal Cliff Beach Terrace, Royal Cliff Grand Hotel, and Royal Wing Suites and Spa.

We stayed at Royal Cliff Beach Hotel, but we walked around all four. Great view in all four hotels depending on your preference. I enjoyed the infinity pool overlooking the Gulf of Thailand!

I was so amazed at how big the resort compound is! I was reading through the in-room magazines and read that the compound has 64 acres of private ocean view parkland.

Our room was a Grand Sea View type. The bedroom is finished with wooden floors and the spacious marbled bathroom comes with a separate walk-in rain shower and double washbasins. The view from our sea facing balcony is amazing! We have a great view of the Gulf of Thailand.

I have also rebranded Flair Candy’s tagline. From “Retired CPA…”, I now advocate The Good Life. And you can get this kind of good life at around as Php 5,000 or USD 100. It’s really worth it! The view, the facilities, the many options, not to mention the romantic scenery and the awesome food they serve, I would recommend this to friends and family. I might go back here with my family too and share with them this paradise.

Samsung Galaxy J Series – Selfie Love

Samsung Galaxy J Series – Selfie Love

Hello from Manila!

I’m back at home for a pitstop, before I go travel again to another country I’ve never been to before – Japan! I have been traveling non-stop since April, thanks to my super trusted travel partners Smart, Agoda and Philippine Airlines :)

Let’s see, so far Bali, Korea, Thailand, Boracay … I think one destination per month and how can I make these memories last forever if I don’t capture these moments? This is why I blog too. I started out blogging basically to put an online journal (just made a bit public) about all my adventures. That way, as I grow wiser (avoiding the word that starts with letter “O” and 3 letters), I have memories etched in cybersphere.

More often than not, I travel solo. One disadvantage of solo travel is the fact that no one else is there to take your photos! Hence, I selfie a lot! I have long been doing selfies – way back even with my DSLR – it’s a struggle! and the struggle is real!

Filipinos love taking selfies (or selvies/groupfies). Samsung saw this trend and introduces a selfie device which offers the best-in-class upgraded selfie experience.

The Philippines is in fact known as the selfie capital of the world! Selfies are personal and invites the world to see memories captured with your own personal touch. One struggle everyone’s been having though is that our best attempts to snap photos of ourselves could still fall short. It takes about around five failed selfie shots before a photo will be shared in social media. We ask ourselves “is this Instagram worthy” because we also don’t want to spam our friends with our faces, so we need to put up there our best selves. Am I right? or am I right dear friends?

It’s all about finding good lighting, decent background, right angle and post-editing filters before uploading that #forlikes.

Now the question is: how do you best capture selfie-worthy moments at an arm’s length?

Samsung now has a selfie-friendly smartphone! They call it the Galaxy J Series – Samsung’s best-in-class smartphones that upgrade your selfies to perfect J-Fies. With a 5MP front camera equipped with LED Flash, multiple J-Fie features and large super AMOLED screen, the 5.0” Galaxy J5 and 5.5” Galaxy J7 definitely set the bar high in the selfie arena.

Samsung J Series Samsung J Series 2

What I like about this new J-Fie series is that you can take photos in dark conditions with the LED Front Flash. I usually have this problem when I’m dancing at the club with friends and I want to capture the moment – all to fail because the club is a dark place to be.

Try out the new Samsung Galaxy J Series at a Samsung Experience Store near you. Get updates on products and launches through Samsung Mobile Philippines on Facebook, @samsungph on Twitter, or visit www.samsung.com.ph.

Millymin Visits Flaircandy

My dear friend Emily, otherwise known as Millymin in the blogosphere, visited the Philippines and we went to Boracay to have some girl time bonding :)

Post-surfing selfie 😘 @millymin #emilyvisits #emilysurfs #millyminvisits #flairtravels #batteriesnotincluded

A photo posted by Hannah Villasis (@flaircandy) on

There were so many things we wanted to do like Cliff Dive at Ariel’s point, zip line, surf, and of course take lots of photos. But the weather was not friendly. When we were there a week back, typhoon Hanna (yep!) was wrecking havoc to our vacation.

We had a few sunshiny moments and we took advantage of this by surfing, ziplining and taking bikini photos of each other. No boat dared to sail to Ariel’s point though, so that was a bummer. Even if there’s a storm in Boracay, it’s always summer in the Philippines. Our 3-day vacation was not ruined (not as much teehee) and we still had a great time.

We stayed at the Lazy Dog bed and breakfast hotel near the Bulabog beach (which is only 10 minutes walk to D-mall and a few cartwheels to the Bulabog beach. Will tell you guys more about the Lazy Dog hotel in the next few blog posts but it was quite a cozy place to stay! For now, check out the Lazy Dog at Agoda.com.

I have also noticed something… I need new bikini! I’ve been traveling quite a lot and you will see me wearing the same set. I have quite a lot in my closet, but my selection can’t keep up with the frequency of my vacation days.

Which of these do you think would best suit me?

On to the next destination! <3

Paragliding Pokhara Nepal – Flair Travels #2

Paragliding Pokhara Nepal – Flair Travels #2

I’m pretty sure every human being in this world would wonder how it feels to fly. To be momentarily suspended on air, your feet of the ground and you float for more than 5 seconds.

Well, like everyone else, I dreamed to fly.

When I went to Nepal last October, I browsed through the activities I could do during my stay.

Apart from seeing the tallest mountain on earth, Mt. Everest, I just had to do something for the first time – flying!

Well, paragliding to be specific.

I have told my friends who went to Nepal to try paragliding. It is really safe and one experience you will cherish.

Here are the things you need to do to make this experience come true.

– Book your flight a few days in advance. We went on October when it’s peak season and slots do fill up.

– For paragliding, a pilot will be paired to you and both of you will be strapped in for flight. So don’t worry. you don’t need to be experienced in anything to do this. all you have to do is ride.

– We booked through Himalayan Encounters and sometimes in a city you are not familiar with, it is best to have a travel agent or a tour guide.

– They have four scheduled times to fly during the day. It also depends on the weather and winds for best time to fly. Don’t worry to much about this, trust that they will tell you the best time to fly.

– We met at their office that will take us about 25 minutes uphill to the Sarangkot mountain top where you are already 1,400 meters above sea level.

– After driving, you need to hike up a little bit, this was my warm-up. There’s a point where vans can’t have access to, so off you go and walk!

– They will prepare the shoot and your seat/strap.

– I suggest you take the option with photos so you can document your flight! I mean this is a pretty expensive activity, might as well document it to last forever! They have go pro cameras that will capture your moment. You can bring your own gear too if you want, I had my DSLR strapped to my neck the entire time.

– This costs only additional $22 dollars or 1700 Nepali Rupees

– Bring sun glasses – the sun is harsh

– long sleeves and pants if you want to protect your skin from the sun. It was windy and chilly in October so it’s okay,

– and bring sunscreen!

– So once the shoot and you’re all strapped in, the pilot will be by your back and he will tell you to run towards the cliff!

– Did I tell you I’m afraid of heights? Yes very much so! But I somehow found a way to overcome this. I stop thinking and just do it!

– These pilots are trained and I trust them. SO RUN I DID!!!

– I didn’t think of anything else but just running towards that cliff! i was too nervous and stunned to document this moment and did not take a video or photo of it :(

– and next thing I knew, i was running with my feet not touching the floor already. I was flying!!!

– hallelujah!!!

– As you enjoy the ride, take photos, enjoy the view of the himalayas :) Enjoy flying atop Pokhara Lake, but don’t wonder about where you’re gonna eat later because if you have a not-so-adventurous stomach, you would feel like vomiting mid way. AND I DID!

– Apparently, this is normal, so the pilot just asked me to tilt to my left and be free to barf. yes.

Here are the signs when the pilots can tell if someone is about to barf mid air:

1. Silence

2. Head bops more than usual

3. They curl with their tummies and clinch fist

4. They ask questions like – how long are we gonna be flying or when/where do we land?

As for me, I just told him directly – hey I need to vomit

– If you are more adventurous (or crazy lol) you can ask them to do a few tricks for you like summersault on air or do a 360 rollercoaster thing. Whatever – do whatever floats your banana boat!

– The pilots can control the height of the shoot. You can fly higher, and of course you need to fly lower if you’re ride is about to be done for landing. You will land at the space near the lake. So I’m thinking, In case I fall, I fall into water.

Flair Getaways: Pico de Loro Cove by Hamilo Coast

I’ve always asked my friends “Where is the nearest beach from Manila that’s clean and nice?”  They would always say Batangas or Zambales – both takes about roughly 3 hours.  But recently I heard there’s a (soon 1.5 hrs drive) highway recently developed for easy driving from Manila to Nasugbu, Batangas.  I’m not sure if the highway is done yet, but you can also drive to Pico de Loro via Tagaytay (2.5 hrs)  Perfect!  Now I’m happy to know that if I need to go to a beach somewhere, I can just drive 1.5 hrs to this great place called Pico de Loro.  I didn’t expect much when I heard about it.  I thought it was just going to be a typical beach resort.  But I was so amazed at what I saw, to the point that I want to buy one of the units and just live there (since I work from home anyway).

A view from the Chapel

St. Therese of the Child Jesus, glass chapel overlooking the Pico de Loro Cove

Pico de Loro Cove is the first urban living community developments of Hamilo Coast.  The community brings together families and friends who love living the good life with a scene of green and blue.  Pico de Loro Cove is situated in Batangas and brings you the view of the untouched mountains and serene seas.

Me and Matt, together Rica and Jo spent a lovely getaway at this marvelous place.  At the end of our trip, me and Matt wanted to become members 😛

Pico Sands Hotel

For now, all areas can be accessed by guests as long as you are endorsed by a member :)  However, if you want to experience the greatness of the place without being endorsed, you can do so by booking for a stay at the Pico Sands Hotel.  This gives you access to the main beach and the Pico de Loro Country club which is just beside the hotel.

The beds are comfortable and the room is spacious!

Pico Sands Hotel has 154 rooms with all the thoughtful amenities that ensured our comfort.  Just a couple of minutes’ walk and we can have access to the Pico de Loro Beach Club were they have badminton, basketball, bowling, billards, karaoke etc.  There’s also a shuttle to take us to the beach front for some relaxation time.  Guests can also inquire and try their water activities.  Or, if you’re like me, just relax by the beach with a shake, music or a book.

Pico de Loro Country Club

You are never going to get bored here!  Bring your friends and family with you for more fun because you will never run out of activities for everyone!

Left and right, there’s pool space for everyone!

This is only the front part of their kid’s play place… towards the back is more fun, more awesomeness!

Even adults (like me) envy the kids for this fun kingdom!  I wanted to go and play there myself!

Billard pool tables

Sing your heart and lungs out!  Karaoke time!

They really have a big gym that would encourage you to get fit despite being on vacation.

They have a HUUUUGE dance floor!!! *tears* I want to own one.. I was thinking the entire time if I could install my pole here…

Badminton / Tennis area.  You can rent rackets, shuttlecocks and balls :)

Wooden floor basketball.  Matt wants to play here!

Squash and table tennis area.  Again, this is Matt’s venue 😛

Sports not drugs people!

Bowling time at the Country Club!

Rica won the Bowling challenge!!!

Well… I sucked at it and scored very low :(  but I had so much fun I will do it over and over again!!! XD

Check out the rates of the different Country Club activities here.

Pico de Loro Beach Club and Water Activities

Explore the sun and the seas!

The beach has the view of the South China sea and you have different areas / coves you can come to visit.  If you just want to stay and chill at the main beach, that’s also fine.

Main beach at sunsent time

Pool or Beach?  It depends on what mood you’re on 😉

Memories I will never forget, me and Matt going to Santelmo Cove

Itayo cave.

Yes, our speedboat passed by inside 😉

Santelmo Cove finally :)

You can rent the area for a fee.  Invite friends and family and get this spot all for yourself!

Check out the rates of the different water activities here.

Pico de Loro Residences

This holds true, I’ve been wishing to live in this area the moment I’ve explored the place.  I work from home anyway so as long as internet is stable here (which pretty much is), I’m good to go!

We went around the different properties and sample units.

You can chose between the lake view and mountain view.

Either way, living here means you get to experience living with nature comfortably and the city is just a couple of hours away!

Penthouse unit with a really great view!

Penthouse unit has 3-4 bedrooms and a whole lot of space!

Wouldn’t it be nice?

The Food

You don’t need to bring anything much because the restaurants have pretty much everything you crave for.

End of the Trip

The road to Nasugbu is very good :)

and our road trip ended there, but is forever in my memory.

Find a place for you.  Own a unit, or just become a member.  Contact Pico de Loro Cove for details.

Taal Vista Hotel: Flair Weekend Getaways (Day 2)

Taal Vista Hotel: Flair Weekend Getaways (Day 2)

I usually hate waking up early because I just had to (work, errands etc).  One exception is waking up a wee bit early to experience Tagaytay sunrise!

When you’re staying in Taal Vista Hotel, don’t waste that moment and experience a beautiful sunrise – especially when you have that balcony view.  And then, eat their scrumptious breakfast buffet, and enjoy the view some more :)  Or not… because sleeping in their comfortable beds is just quite something on its own :)

Book Taal Vista Hotel online via Agoda.com

We woke up early to greet a beautiful morning!  Great weather in Tagaytay.  Lucky!

Huge hallway of the different Ballrooms

Their Grand Ballroom can accommodate up to 1,000 guests

The lovely pool by the mountain wing side.

This great weather made me able to take this clear photo of the lake.

The structure on the left is a conference / events area by day and a club at night!

This place is perfect if you want an outdoor setting for a party and don’t want to be bothered by any probable rain.

Weekend market!

Game room!

No excuse not to get fit while on vacation.

Kids can have their fun too!

Herbs for sale that are part of the weekend market!

The wide open space for everyone to enjoy!

Majestic. Beautiful.

Couple pic.  Dressed quite comfortably because we were headed to the beach after this!

With the Taal Vista and SM team :)

The history wall.  Learned so much about Tagaytay and the history of Taal Vista Hotel.

We went around and I just notice the tiniest pretty details!

Finally, we arrive at the private garden of Taal Vista Hotel

Chef Edwin explains the different crops they plant on this land.

Most of these herbs are being used in Taal Vista’s Kitchen.

Organic… Only natural fertilizers, that’s why growing it is a bit slower.

But, organic is good!  No harmful chemicals 😉

Cherry tomatoes!!! They look delicious!  I want to grill some and eat wth cielo kebab or something 😛

Final group pic with Taal Vista Hotel team.

Sky Ranch Tagaytay: Sky Eye and Sky Fun Amusement Park

What’s happenin’ in Tagaytay?  Lots!  Apart from the usual attractions, you now get to appreciate a different view of the Taal landscape.  The Sky Ranch in Tagaytay is a leisure park within the 5 hectares land area beside Taal Vista Hotel.  Within the compound is the Sky Fun amusement park and other future developments like restaurants and a science museum.

Check out my blog post about Taal Vista Hotel.

The developers only hired the best engineers to build and operate the Sky Eye.  It is overlooking the Taal Volcano and the Taal Lake.  During the day, you get to enjoy a nice view of the lake.  At night time, you get to see city lights and a romantic view of Tagaytay.

Apart from this, they also have horseback riding by the Riding Loop area at P250 for 30 mins.  They are still building restaurant venues and other facilities.  There’s ample parking in front of the park, but if you’re staying at Taal Vista Hotel, it’s just a 5-minute walk!

Taal Vista Hotel: Flair Weekend Getaways (Day 1)

Escaping the chaotic Manila is simple. Drive an hour away to Tagaytay, and you will get all the peace and serenity you want. One of my favorite places to go is Taal Vista Hotel.

Book Taal Vista Hotel online via Agoda.com

Taal Vista Hotel is a landmark by itself.  It has been around since 1939 with a very rich story behind it.  The owner would usually go to a specific spot in this once-then an empty lot and it would allow him to think, be calm and be inspired.  It came to a point where he bought the land area and built this hotel with one of the most breathtaking view of the Taal Volcano and the Taal Lake.

There are many other places that will give you a nice view of the Taal Lake in Tagaytay, but Taal Vista’s is quite vast and spacious.  You will have plenty of space to take selfies, group shots, etc!  It is frequently a site for shoots, pre-nups, garden weddings and other events.

It’s a romantic place for couples, great place for families, and fully-equipped facilities for conventions.

Lunch Buffet upon our arrival at Taal Vista Hotel

Guava Gelato

This was one of the highlights of our lunch!  They also serve siniguelas ice cream which was also surprisingly good!  Match the gelato with baklang saba banana crisp and you’re good to go!

Guests were invited to participate in dancing the tinikling!

When you have lunch at Taal Vista, you will be treated with a cultural show by the Bughaw Dance Group.

Group shot after eating!  We all got happy bellies!

Cozy room with the lake view! My home away from home!

5 star facilities and service.

The view from our balcony

The beautiful view inside our room.  We had fruits and flowers for positive energy ^_^

in the afternoon, we went for a nice R&R time at Asmara Spa

Asmara Spa at Taal Vista Hotel is open from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm on weekdays (Sunday to Thursday) and 10:00am to 12:00mn on weekends.

Massage and other services range from P1,000 to P3,000.

Asmara Spa list of services and prices here.

A few minutes of walking, (or driving if you lazy!), is the new Sky Ranch

more details on a separate blog post!

The fog dillutes and distributes the color to the sky! 😛

Our dinner was just a great surprise!

I was admiring this romantic dinner set-up, thinking it was prepared for someone who was trying to propose… but, this was our dining table 😛

The weather was perfect!  It fogged a bit at some point, but the weather and the wind was just right!

Group photo: Matt, Me, Ro, Rica and Jo

Our dinner

Appetizer/Salad:  Marinated Smoked Salmon with Mango Tomato Salsa and Crisp Salad

Soup:  Fire Roasted Pumpkin Cuppuccino with Cinnamon Cream Broth

Main Course:  Duo of US Beef and Prawns with Potato Risotto and Grilled Vegetables

Dessert:  Warm Chocolate Erruption with Gelato Ice Cream

Do you want to experience this quite fancy dinner?

You can actually do!  Just call Taal Vista Hotel (contact details below) and request for this.  For whatever purpose it may be: to propose to your SO (special someone), to impress a business client, to celebrate with family etc… Taal Vista will help you!

Matt and me, with Chef Edwin V. Santos

Chef Edwin is my favorite chef to date, it is really obvious that he loves preparing food, even grows it in the private garden of Taal Vista Hotel!  He spent time talking with us and overall, he is just a really happy person <3 his energy is contagious – maybe also why the food he prepares is more delicous!

Clubbing in Tagaytay

and… we dressed up a little at night to Party at the Ridge!

It’s the place to be every Saturday night when you’re in Tagaytay as they invite club DJs, in partnership with Republiq.

I have been looking for something like this in Tagaytay for years and I’m happy to know there’s a bar/club place you and your friends can go to in Tagaytay!

That concluded our day :)  Coming up next, Day 2 at Taal Vista Hotel, tour of the hotel grounds and surprisingly more activities you and your loved ones would enjoy ify ou stay over.

Front Seat

Today’s selfie!!!

I’m off to La Union again to surf! This time, I will be with my officemates for our team building activities!

Currently, I’m riding a Partas bus going to Vigan. It’s going to pass by Urbiztondo beach, San Juan, La Union, where we will be staying!

By car, it would usually take me 6 hrs to drive if I leave at 2 am.

By bus, and traveling during day time, it’s gonna take about 8 hrs at least! We left at 2pm and we expect to arrive at 10pm. Enough for late dinner and some drinks 😛

Partas bus station is in Cubao, by Araneta st. cor. EDSA. Ticket to LU is around 400 something. If you Google Partas bus fare and schedule, you will find it 😀

Anyway, ttyl folks.
